We didn't need him to donate, but one of his first orders of business before his first season is to make that happen?

I imagine we're in much better shape financially than the U. No way in hell they had 80+ Million in reserve and an AD that just sits on it.
Good for CMR! And he earned every penny he could pull from our tight wad AD.

His problem here was much less to do with money and more to do about the guy whose permission was needed first. Adams/Dooley/Evans/MCg mostly didn't GAS about building one. It was only due to backing by big boosters and Moorehead that mcg finally came around.
Good for miami.

I see nothing wrong here. It's his money, let him do what he wants with it.

It's his money and his alma mater. Good on him.

It's actually probably our money that we still owe

It's called job security. On a number of levels.
Very smart investment strategy on his part. It will also guarantee he'll have a building named after him at his alma mater. Again, smart.

It's nice to see CMR motivated. I'm glad that he's finally been able to attain a position where he is allowed to be a hands on football coach and play a proactive role in getting an IPF.

You're way too upset about this.
He was hamgstrung by the AD.
Also, it's his money. He can do with it what he likes.

I guess to a point I can understand OP being upset if the thought is Richt didn't give to UGA as he did/will give to Miami. There's nothing illegal or improper about it but it's that kind of the second wife gets better treatment than the first wife kind of thing. All things being equal (and I have no idea whatsoever whether they are/were) it's just a not being very nice kind of thing.
Outside of that it is his money to do with how he pleases. If I've earned money I want to be able to decide how to spend it. I don't know anything about his financial portfolio but do we even know that the money to be gifted is money he earned from the University? It may come from another source; wouldn't matter either way of course since it was money he earned.
And I agree on the investment thing that's been mentioned in that it really may be more than just a simple gift. If he plans on being at his alma mater for awhile in a coaching capacity or otherwise he could definitely benefit from such a kind gesture, financially or otherwise. It's not uncommon to see people entrenched in communities make generous gifts to the community--in the longer run it benefits the donor, the recipient and many others whether the donor receives a direct financial benefit or not. There's nothing wrong with that and that's just good stewardship for those who can afford it.

Zero fuc$s given. He coaches for a different team now, let it go. Personally I'm glad he is gone.

That's certainly true more than anything. Whether it's an old wife, old coach or whatever you have to put them in the past and look to what is hopefully a brighter future with the new folks. Wish the old ones well and move on.

It's his Alma Mater he should if he wants to.
As far as him not giving to UGA, the AD was so tight with CMR here , he had to pay bonuses to assistants out of his own pocket, makes it difficult to give back to the AD

The point wasn't about the money. It was about doing something as one of the first orders of business in Miami that he failed to do here in fifteen years. It took Pruitt to come in and raise hell to get the wheels moving.

So you can say it's the AD. It's funny how when Pruitt called them out, it happened. That was it. That was all it took. Richt couldn't have done that?
