We have better athletes!. I did the same comparison for ND game and we won by a point. Some people say recruiting doesn't matter but we all know that it does!!
And where was TCU, the vaunted #2 team in the big12?
2013 35
2014 43
2015 39
2016 21
2017 28
Good coach but talent level just isn't there.

Can you pull out the stats for UGA vs Colorado State? or UGA vs West Virginia? or UGA vs UCF? or UGA vs Vandy? or UGA vs Kentucky? or UGA vs Michigan State?

Do the comparisons for Clemson and Alabama prior to last year's championship.

They don’t matter if you can’t develop your talent. Kirby is recruiting better but what this staff is doing is hitting on their own talent evaluations and developing.
I’m not trying to bash CMR. I like’d the guy and at the time was not in support of letting him go. However, if he had coached this team I don’t see us beating ND or Auburn either time. Kirby has the team extremely prepared week in and week out. Personally, the first Auburn game I do not feel was his fault. He couldn’t play for them.

Talent or not, OU has Baker Mayfield and if you watch tape you can see that this dude is a beast. Also, it's not like OU is horrible in recruiting.

We have a bigger beast.

We have a lot of talent, but we have a lot of senior leadership than any other team in the CFP, which might be more important at the end of the day.

who has ever said that?

Saw this earlier in the year and it gave me hope.
If you ever feel like running the calculations for specific teams, take a look at this...
LINK
OU - 43%
TCU - 16%
Obviously, teams with less overall talent can still win on the backs of individual elite athletes (see: Clemson 2016 - 49% v 74%)

Pretty sure Oh St blows OU out of the water on recruiting rankings too, but OU still roasted them.

College Football, like all things, is a dynamic.
Recruiting matters, but there is noise in the machine, injuries, arrests, busts, etc can level the playing field with teams not as highly rated. Sometimes teams not as highly rated sign underrated talent. Other times it's like Boise state or BYU where they have 5 year experience while we get 3 from our better talent and are breaking players in more often.
Coaching matters, it's why I don't like NFL guys who are used to NFL talent that has already learned the fundamentals.
Strong fundamentals, ability to adjust, and scheme are important. Mostly I think, simplifying play on o and d so players instictively play fast is the key. Worked for Pete Carroll at USC, he simplified everything and USC started a new dynasty.
S and C, Nutrition, is amazingly important, being bigger stronger faster matters. The other thing that matters is reducing injuries, which is a big deal.
Finally, over roster management is the biggest difference between smart and Richt. Kirby is light years better at plugging holes in the roster.

One of the most underrated things in recruiting is Football IQ. I could easily see this become a measurable of some sort in the near future.
Last year we were killed by kids who had low football IQ.

Or could they not play fast because of learning a new system?
Football IQ is important but it is elevated by being comfortable with your responsibilities.
I think this was Granthams biggest fault.

Recruiting Rankings Matter
Yep, there's a strong correlation between the rankings and teams that make it to the championship game. Having said that, there are many other aspects not the least of which is attrition of key players of which we have had more than our share over the years. And yes, key players like Mayfield make a huge difference.
But in the end, most games are won or lost in the trenches. I don't know how well we have recruited linemen compared to OU but we are going to find out soon enough. If we can run the ball along with some timely passes, it will minimize their offense and wear down the OU defense. And if our defense can contain Mayfield and make sure tackles on his receivers, I think we win this game.

this is the problem...we are blaming coaches instead of telling the truth and that is that the kids just flat out didn’t get it done.
Coaches fault that we had kids with low Football IQ, absolutely? Coaches fault it stayed low...absolutely not!
Think back to Vandy last year. Caught a punt or a kickoff and stepped out at the 1 yard line. I forget what Isaiah Mackenzie did that game but he did something really stupid. Then Jason Stanley running into the punt returner at auburn.
These are just examples. Our team as a whole has improved a ton but we still have individuals that play significant parts who have low football IQ’s and it hurts our team situationally.

It's also the coaches' job to teach the players football IQ.

have you ever been around somebody that just doesn’t get it?
Have you ever been around anybody that refuses to get it?
You can’t save everybody!
