Taking the missus to Savannah next weekend away from the kids and dog. Need some recommendations for good music venues and activities on Saturday. We’re both in our 40’s so a good music bar that’s not too over the top...preferably blues. Also, any good tours site, lunch spots, rooftop bars or other suggestions welcome.
I booked dinner at 1790 for Sat and thinking Boars Head for Friday since it’ll be more casual and I don’t know exactly when we’ll get into town. . No plans for lunch or brunches yet.
We usually go to Charleston and I haven’t been to Savannah in a while. Staying in the historic district. TIA.

olddawg and lewdawg are gonna be the ones to answer here. I think treehouse has live bands and it has an upstairs patio that overlooks the street and there's a non-toursity (imo) place called trailer park that was pretty badass when I visited. And although it's obviously toursity river street is fun, just pop in and out of bars and can walk around outside with your beers.

Even though I live in the Rome area, I grew up in Savannah and Mom still lives there.
Definitely recommend Savannah Smiles piano bar; a bunch of us took it over when I was down there in June for my HS reunion. Kevin Barry's on River St. is a great Irish pub that showcases live music too.
Foodwise, I'd recommend Spanky's (get the chicken fingers and spuds) for a casual meal, Mrs. Wilkes for lunch (get in line early), Pacci for upscale food, Leopold's for dessert. A couple of good food places on the river are The Shrimp Factory and Cotton Exchange Tavern.
Definitely recommend the Bonaventure tour and take the tour of the squares.

Have your wife read "Midnight in the Garden Of Good And Evil" before you go. She will have a good feel for the city.

Open containers legal. Horse drawn carriage through the squares with open containers.

Thanks everyone.
Savannah is much more convenient to the kids drop off point so I’m hoping to make this an annual visit.

Sunset'ish might get Mama in the mood. Have dinner then a nightcap there. You'll make friends there fast too. Good, chill place.

I second Treehouse. Stay away from Paula Deen's. Do take her to Better than Sex for an amazing desert.

Brunch: B. Matthews, Collins Quarter, Soho Soutb, Funky Brunch, or Goose Feathers. Probably in that order.
Lunch: Mrs. Wilkes (get in line early), Crystal Beer Parlor, Zunzi’s, Tubby’s (either the one on River Street or in Thunderbolt), Little Duck Diner, or Vic’s on the River. If you must do Lady and Sons, tell them you’re a local and you’ll just grab a seat at the bar on the third level or you’ll wait forever.
Dinner: Alligator Soul, Jazz’d, The Public, The Grey, Local 11 Ten, The Olde Pink House, Noble Fare.
Drinks: The Top Deck at Cotton Sail (better than Rocks on the Roof in my opinion but both are good), B&D Burgers on Congress Street (great place to watch some March Madness), tThe Grove (owned by a Georgia grad and great place to watch games on the roof), Treylor Park (cool bar in the back of the restaurant and decent food too), Perry Lane Hotel rooftop bar.
Let me know if you need anything else.

shite I forgot music.
For blues, I’d suggest Bay Street Blues. Other music is Treetop as mentioned earlier but might not be best for couples in their forties. Social Club is pretty good. Jazz’d will have a good jazz band. There should be live music at B&D Burgers and and at Wild Wing. Savannah Smiles sucks unless you’re absolutely shitfaced or with a huge group.
Also forgot to mention Jen’s and Friends as a bar recommendation. Cool martini bar that your wife will love.

Seems a bit hostile. The city's not *that* crime-ridden.
