RE: Coley...Kirbs sidestepped questions about Coley yesterday

Obviously he must not publicly badmouth any of his assistants, but he just acted like the question wasn’t even asked. Not sure what to make of it, given the tone of the press conference, but I did find the complete evasion intriguing. Kirby will generally give AN answer to every question, even if it wanders off and winds up perpendicular to the question asked. This time he just said the team is focused on Kentucky and then said what he thought the objective of the offense is. Wonder if he’s already talking to Bobo about coming home?

He’s not going to answer questions that bring his own staff into question. Nor should he.

The whole Bobo coming back is a pipe dream to me. I feel like he and Kirby disagree on a fundamental element of offense which is wether or not a fullback is beneficial. Bobo always used one. Kirby seldom has.

I don’t think he should either...but the whole vibe was weird. Have you watched/listened to it Crow? Honest question not a passive-aggressive snark.
It was just oddly uncomfortable for a second and then a weird answer from Kirby.
Maybe he knows Coley blows as an OC or maybe he knows he has his own hands all over the playcalling.

Well, I think they are probably close enough friends that Mike would tell Kirby to keep his goddamned nose out of the offense if he wants Bobo to come back to Athens.

A huge problem for Kirby will be his inability to get the hell out of the way of the offense. It already lost us one game.
I wonder if Chaney left and Gran didn't want a part in this shitshow because CKS said "This is how we're going to do it".

I haven't watched it, but that wouldn't surprise me. I doubt there is anything comfortable around the football program this week.

Noticed the same thing DH and mentioned it in another thread. I didnt expect him to throw him under the bus but he didnt even say anything positive.
And like you said he had been candid with evey other answer offering some insight to each one. Could have been he was so annoyed he dodnt think ot warranted an answer or there could be something deeper.

good. If he has said "james is doing a great job! players need to do better but the play calling is fine and we're confident in his abilities" people would fly off the handle wondering why kirby was only answering in coach speak.

I'd kill to have bobo back only if he was actually healthy, which sadly he hasn't appeared to be in a few years.

No manager in any profession should ever criticize an employee in public or in front of others.
Any reporter that asks a question like that should be ignored, and called out for asking that question.

Truth.
Praise in public
Correct in private

It's not that he criticized him...it's that he didn't praise him. All the other questions he gave insight and thoughtful answers to, and this one he just totally ignores.
He could have said he thinks he's doing a great job, on the players to execute, give South Carolina credit yada yada. But he didn't say anything like that.

He´s pissed off. He´s embarrassed. He surely got his chewed out by Foley and more than a few boosters. He´s concentrated on the next game. All kinds of shite can be made of it.

He starts tossing him under the bus in a presser we are really fricked.
Posted on 10/15/19 at 9:50 am to RealDawg
If we pulled a mid season Fire Coley, who would even takeover play calling?
That said, all the would have to do to be a rock star is call a toss fricking sweep.

To be clear, I didn’t and don’t expect him to throw anyone under the bus publicly. I know the whole praise in public, criticize in private mantra. I’ve been a manager/supervisor for many years, going all the way back to the Air Force.
That wasn’t the part I didn’t know what to make of. I understand that Kirby has probably got an arse that feels like dogmeat right now from the boosters et al. As K9 seems to be the only one picking up on it, it was the weird sidestep. If he wanted to stop after saying the team was focused on Kentucky, cool. He didn’t. He felt compelled to give his own opinion about offensive philosophy and wondering HOW to get to the end goal of scoring points. As it appears K9 and I are the only ones who have listened to the presser, at least in this thread, maybe that’s why we are the only ones struck odd by the manner in which Kirby responded.

Where it gets complicated for Kirby is if Kirby is pushed to fire Coley knowing that kirby directed Coley on this offense and it is truthfully handicapped by a defensive mentality.....

The fullback seems like more of a Richt thing. Every time I've watched CSU in recent years, they're mostly playing from the shotgun.
Also, in 2019, a fullback is no longer a fundamental element of an offense

It's not a fundamental part, but a lot of the really effecient and creative guys in the NFL use them and use them well. 49ers and Patriots being two of them.
They have value. I know Kirby is worried about scholly numbers, but I guarantee you there are hundreds of corn fed South Georgia baws that will gladly walk on and crack some skulls.
