Pruitt might be a problem

At first, I didn't think much of Pruitt because I thought he didn't have the personality to be a head coach but after listening to his press conference, I can tell he's probably going to be good. He's already poached Sherrer and during his presser, he mentioned recruiting ad nauseum, so he understands why TENN hasn't been good and is looking to get their recruiting program ramped back up.
Kirby has to deal with Mullen, Boom and Pruitt now. Has power shifted to the East now?

I like that Fulmer said he's going to be very hands on. For some reason I see that not going well. But yea he's putting together a good staff. He just better wear a metal plate on his back to watch out for fat Phil.

Everyone knows that. He's no genius. He may do well, but I can't say I'm worried about him at this point.
It's going to be fun to watch him go down Bobby Petrino style.

Just put an asparagus stalk outside his door every morning. He’ll be too confused to leave his fricking house.

He wont last 3 years.
You really think that a maniac and control freak like Pruitt is going to work in Knoxville with Phil standing over him?
Whats the over/under on staff changes after the 2018 season?

Didn't Butch pull in some pretty good classes?
From 2014-2017 the had a #7, #4, #14, and #17 ranked recruiting class.
I'll attribute the drop off to the lack of results Butch showed, but those are still pretty strong classes. Tennessee's problem to me is how dysfunctional everyone connected to them can be. Pruitt will not help them that much with that factor.
USC is a "thorn in the side" program. We'll beat them most years, but they'll get up and beat us every now and then.
Mullen at UF is slightly scary to me.

CJP has a runaway, unmitigated shite show on his hands, and if he is the living reincarnation of General Neyland himself, he might be able to get that team to 5-7, next year.

Pruitt is a good recruiter and Xs and Os guy! I question him leading the team as HC and speaking to the media. He has an uphill battle year 1 with recruiting. His year 2 will be important to look at.

Pruitt may end up being a great college coach, but he will have his hands full with Fulmer running things behind the scenes.
I just don't see that situation being successful.

I agree.
He'll be relentless in recruiting and relentless in coaching just like Kirby. He'll also be demanding of his assistant coaches and his players just like Kirby.
I give Pruitt a bunch of credit for the season we're having. He's the one who begin to change the culture (a terrible expression, but I'll use it anyway) and Pruitt is the one who convinced Coach Richt to hire more support staff and he changed the look of our entire program.
He also can coach. He found a bunch of players that he could work with and coached them up. And they didn't all have to be high profile recruits (Dominick Sanders, Aaron Davis, Tyrique McGee.
We actually have smart players on defense for once. Give Pruitt a lot of the credit for that.

Same thing could be said about Kirby. Both are OCD and have a screw loose. It's not normal to be so obsessive and driven, which is what makes both of them great.

The difference is Kirby didn't move up too fast and took a while to watch and learn on how to manage a program. Pruitt may be out punting his coverage to make this jump as quickly as he did. The HC role is a whole other animal.

There also were never reports about Kirby being a cancer in coaching rooms and not getting along with staff, and allegedly getting in fights.

^^^Kirby also was at Alabama, which was a rock solid organization.
I always interpreted Pruitt's neurotic behavior in his second year at Georgia as frustration. The man doesn't like not kicking arse and he doesn't like half-arse commitment from any of his co-workers.
He was dickking around on his finance and running around town while he was at FSU, but at Georgia I can't really call him out for anything he did.

I told yall this four years ago, and I'll say it again.
He's a snake oil salesman.

We're a program on the rise with a likable, young, energetic HC. We're also in one of the most fertile states for HS football talent in the US. Top that off with the fact that we'll be vying for a shot at the NC on Jan 1 and you have the recipe for success.
Compare where UT is. Their fanbase is full of some of the most unsophisticated football minds in the US, and they haven't been relevant since Moses was a child. It will take Pruitt a few years to right the ship, if he even can. He's playing catch up to Kirby, who has left the gate and has a full head of steam.
I don't envy CJP at all.

Pruitt is a hothead. He's going to have a poisonous atmosphere when he's the guy in charge and people are not going to want to work with him or play for him when he blows his lid.
He can fake a lot but you can't fake character. Eventually it will out itself.

Yep. Well said. Character and temperament both count and Pruitt has issues with both. Not sure how long it will be before he starts getting in run-ins...and who knows what scandals he might bring in the recruiting area...or other areas...
