Next season we need to have a different attitude for 60 minutes every game. When we are ahead comfortably and put in the scrubs, we should still play to score and win. The only way to instill in every player the discipline and the confidence to succeed is to let them play the game fully.
I hate to reference Alabama, but that is what they do every game, every season. If the walk-on QB is in the Murray State game next year in the 4th quarter, call a pass to the #10 WR. Stop with the half-arse clock burning. Instill the will to win in every player. Then in the ND game, if we need someone off the bench to make a play, he will do it.

I agree with this take. I wince a little at 70-10 scores, but I believe you shouldn’t handicap players by changing the offence to avoid running up the score. Defense is a little different as the second team usually plays against the other team’s first string.

It’s tough when you want your backups to get reps.

Guess what bama did with their backup qb? He passed the ball. Despite him having a ton of experience, and a big lead, they still let him pass.

Well if JF was the former SEC Offensive POTY than I can see us letting him pass more...

The point went over your head. Our backup guy needed more passing reps than theirs did. Paid off for bama and backfired on us.

You're point is that a guy who started for 2 years and threw the ball during that time was allowed to throw the ball when he became the backup? Not a very strong point.

When the games are out of reach, the backup having inexperience is more of a reason to let the backup throw.

I get that and agree. But using Hurts as an example is not a very good one.

Hurts is a great example of a backup getting passing reps with a large lead. His experience is irrelevant to the point. It’s about keeping the backup engaged and not rusty.

Also, I don’t waste my time downvoting posts from decent posters like you.

Then use Tua as an example. As a freshman, he averaged 10 passes a game when he played as a backup. Saban knew he might be needed and wanted him ready.

Bama also has 2nd and 3rd stringers that could start on most other teams. They can do whatever they want on offense and still eat the clock and get out of the game. We are a little more limited than they are with our backups, though that is improving. The coaches have to weigh how much experience (and what kind) the backups should be getting against the need to get out of the game with minimal injuries.

Perhaps CKS doesn’t have the right philosophy in that regard, but what he has done with our backups is common, except for Fields, who has gotten prime snaps all season.

I think you raise a significant point. Fields and the rest of backups probably should have gotten more meaningful snaps aka more pass plays during garbage time. Our lack of offensive production in the 4th quarter is noteworthy. Our players should be told to get after it in the 2nd half like we are behind by 2 touchdowns in every game.

I assumed he's saying when the backups get in, let them play and open it up too instead of just trying to run clock

Sick Naban needs to accept the fact that he’s at his best in the cover band role.

Nobody wants to hear a cover band try to play their own original songs. Like when Sick Naban fakes punts and FGs or quits with a minute on clock before halftime.

Stick to the hits. Be Sick Naban.

The problem is giving backups reps and then calling a passive game. Call the same game as before.

It was 7 passes a game but just a better example in my eyes.

Fair enough. I just like the Tua example form last year better. But I can see your point since it kept Hurts from getting rusty.
