What was your go to bar in athens?

Allgood, Mags, Boar’s Head.
Sideways, Generals, Flanagan’s when I was a freshman/sophomore.
I’m actually going next weekend for the first time in like 3 years. What are some of the older bars to go to? Feel like there’s a side of Athens I never saw

Yes thats the name, sometimes referred to as 5 bar. On north Hull. Its more of your "older crowd" so when I am there I dont feel like a Narc all the time.

No where, Allgood, Boar's Head, Barcode, Buddha Bar, Flanagan's...can't remember the name of that Freshman Bar around the corner from No Where...Had 2 cages girls would dance in...had a side alley entrance and front door. It turned into an 80s bar for a while. Felt like I spent 5 dollars and got smashed every night

Used to be Allgood now it's 5 bar. I don't feel geriatric there.

Nowhere bar saved my life. Wasted drunk in generals after the 2009 Carolina game. Talking massive shite to some South Carolina fans, apparently they were in a group of about 50, luckily this huge guy I knew from abac was in there and he stepped in and prevented me from being stomped right there. We got the hell out of there and some of the group about 10 of them stopped me and my buddy on the street and they said “hey aren’t y’all those guys that were talking shite in generals? and my buddy said nah man we were at nowhere bar, and the dudes said oh ok and just kept walking.

I know I’m a few years older than you but if we overlapped, I probably saw a lot of you. I lived in Whistlebury and the whole staff of the bury lived there so that was fun. One of my best friends was a pi kapp thus a lot of Flanagan’s.
Freshman year was bourbon, sideways, and sandbar almost exclusively. Then those two mentioned above sprinkled in with shite like silver dollar, generals, mags, 9Ds, and basically anywhere else. I think whiskey and silver dollar both popped up my sophomore year so we definitely had those in the rotation. Post college visits have been mostly mags and Allgood, with some occasional trips down memory lane to the younger areas.
My biggest gripe with the plethora of bars in Athens, or maybe the gripe is with my friends, was that we always seemed to HAVE to bar hop. You felt like you were missing out if you didn’t, but there were countless nights where staying at one bar would have been the best move and we’d leave just because. I could never convince people of that .

I wasn't a spoiled little rich kid who could afford bar hopping, so I mainly did house parties and such. I never really had a favorite bar. After turning 21, I tended to stay away from the frat-star bars, and would mainly go to Caledonia, 40Watt, Ga Theater (when it was a dump), other little music venues to see (or play in) shows. Pregame at home or friend's house, drink more at the venue. Drink more at afterparty. Also, I'm slightly agoraphobic, I don't like being in packed places.
I think the two rowdiest places I would regularly go were El Centro and Roadhouse. My buddy's buddy was a bartender at both and would hook us up with free shots.
ETA- undergrad I went to Uptown Lounge alot, it got really popular after Eddie Vedder did some mtv thing while wearing the uptown lounge tshirt.

Sounds like a good array of bars there.

Griff,
That 2009 Carolina game is when I finally realized how obnoxious our fans are.
I had just adopted a new beagle from the pound, and was walking him around on North Campus where all the tailgates were in full affect.
I had thrown on a faded black uga tshirt that said Georgia real big on the front, in faded red letters.
Apparently, the faded black and red looked a little too much like garnet and black, and I was fricked with and barked at by drunk fratstars all over campus. Like getting right in my fricking face and barking.
Multiple “cant you read motherfricker!”’s went out while the soberer of the clans pulled them away.
I was really disappointed in our fans that day after inadvertently going undercover. It was a sad day.
