Just by watching the gif...looks like there was no power behind that punch. No extension at all.

No extension because a face was in the way. 
There is no way that could be perceived as phantom. It was a hard punch to the face and Manny was not ready for it.
I beleive JMM was juiced .. he was in better shape @ 39 yrs old than I have ever seen him.
