Man this guy was ahead of his time. First song my dad ever tought me on banjo was Cumberland Gap. Remains my favorite tune to pick to this day despite being MUCH rustier with it
Ridiculous version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Cumberland Gap
Roll in My Sweet Babys Arms
Flint Hill Special
Partially started this thread to ask a question of some of the old timers. Any you guys remember a banjo instruction video on GPBS back in the day? (70s-80s) My dad basically taught himself taping it on VHS and watching each episode dozens of times till he nailed it. Id sure like to try and dig em up somehow

Jah provides again....
You’re talking about the Blackmon family. Buddy Blackmon is the banjo player and all the old instructional videos are on youtube. Just search his name
Sidenote: David Blackmon is the fiddler that did the studio fiddle on Takeout and Driving Song for Widespead Panic.

And now, the battle of Winterfell is upon us...
Is Jah out of his mind?
How does he think we could ever handle all that he provides?

One hell of a cinematic feat though. No arguing that

I'm pretty invested. I was UGA playoff game anxious during some moments. Then the climax of that episode happened and I was fricking pumped. Don't understand the haters over on that board and twitter. Some ppl you can't please.

Same. I watched the first half hour standing up and screaming.
Was one of the greatest things I've ever seen on a television screen. Just epic.
The part where the Red Witch had the savages raise their swords and lit them on fire before they led the first charge was pure excellence...….And then the overhead view of their sword flames being extinguished and their war cries fading to silence and the blackness, and a few survivors retreat back bloodied and terrified... Just awesome.

Awesome and terrifying scene but my goodness what a horrible battle strategy. They sent their flanking cavalry headfirst into a horde where they're outnumbered 100 to 1.
All hail Arya Stark.
Great weekend for heroic Starks.

It's for entertainment though.
The reverse Picket's Charge by the savages was perfect becuase it underscored the mood the tv-makers were building on all fronts. Terrified Sam is akwalrdly mustering his one shred of courage. Everything feels tense and uneasy. The characters all resigned to certain death. Even the horses are twitching nervously and brave Jorah looks like he has nervous diarrhea coming on.
But, the savages.... THe savages don't know fear. The savage dothrakys aren't capable of being nervous or fearful.
So, to me it was perfect that the bravest and most aggressive of the bunch were sent face first into a buzzsaw. And vaporized.
It took the mood of hopelesness, fear, and terror up another twenty notches for those behind them. Not to mention the killer visuals and soundtrack
So awesome.
They should have had whoever was going to kill the Night King die doing it though. WOuld have made it even more emotional epic and powerful.

No the battle scene was gripping no doubt. Epic is the only word i can think of. Which i guess makes any "gripes" i have just nitpicking. But i felt the story thus far led us to a showdown of some sort between the night king and jon. And like a lot of people it seems, i was expecting a few more notable deaths given the carnage. Not entire armies obliterated down to a few hundred troops yet all the main characters pretty much intact
But oh well, on sheer entertainment it certainly delivered, so bravo GoT
