OT - You've got $15-18,000 sitting. What would you do with it?

Backstory - I'm about to sell a rental home and while a lot of the proceeds are already allocated to other projects, I'm going to have about $15-18,000 free.
Question is, what should I do with it? I'm looking for investment options that would give a good return, but wouldn't tie the money up for too long (say more than 2 years). Anybody have any ideas?

Tough with only two years.
Damn money market will beat CD's.
Almost enough to grab a kilo, stomp it down, and cook with baking soda.
Would be at least 500k in Auburn.

Personally depends on what kind of time you've got, if any?
20k and I'm hustling cars for a few weekends in tax season and doubling that. Might have to do it now lol

Yeah, I know. I wish I could let it sit longer, but I'm really hesitant to do that.

Yeah, and their rates, at best, are still like 1.30, I think.

That's interesting. Do you buy at auction and then just sell "by-owner"? Park them in the front yard with a "For Sale" sign?

The market is still kicking but right now. Find you a good mutual fund that us just based on the S&P 100. If you did that 2 years ago, you would make 15%. With the limited amount of time you have and not wanting to tie it up, that is probably your best bet. If you have a higher risk tolerance, you might want to look at some higher growth funds. My brother made a good bit of money in that bitcoin crap. I just don’t know enough about it.

Save it for a trip to Baton Rouge and playoff tickets

Over ten sold in year in Georgia, and you have to have Dealers licence. Looks like $170/app fee and 35k surety bond. That ain't shite. I'd do it just to have the dealer tag
No kidding, buddy did it for years in Columbus. Went to auction in Atlanta. They delivered. Would have like 300 in it and sell everything for a grand. If anyone knows Clearview BBQ, we had a lil camper next to it on River Rd. We just sat in there eating BBQ, getting stoned, and selling crackheads cars

Damn.....what's your fee if I set you up in a BBQ joint selling my cars?

You up on that bitcoin stuff WG? I think Etherium was what my brother told me about.
Posted on 1/13/18 at 9:05 am to Dawgfan77
I dabble. Been buying ethereum since may and it certainly hasn't been a bad decision.
Posted on 1/13/18 at 9:09 am to WG_Dawg
Okay...what the hell is ethereum (i'm gonna google it, of course)?
Posted on 1/13/18 at 9:11 am to S1C EM

My dad was in the car business for years. Retired a couple of years ago and does exactly what y'all are talking about for fun and to have something to do. He makes about as much money flipping cars whenever he feels like it as he did working all the damn time. Haha

May was pretty much exactly when I bought some ether (ethereum) and bitcoin. Pretty high risk/reward so I wouldn’t suggest putting more than you plan to lose into it. I say no more than 1% of net worth. I personally have had a good return (turned 6500 into 60k). Just trimmed some profits so I can pretty much be playing with house money.

Honestly, this is a really interesting idea. I don't have any road-front property to put them on, though. I know banks will sometimes let you use their lots, but not sure if they'd let you do it on a regular basis. Don't you also have to insure the car while you own it?
