Question for folks on here who are actually from the state of Georgia: Do you remember this guy Okefenokee Joe?
LINK.............
He used to travel around to elementary schools and teach about snakes and how to be "swamp wise". We'd sit on the floor of what we called "the multi-purpose building" (which was really just a double-wide trailer) and he'd dump a bunch of boxes of snakes out on the ground and start playing his guitar. shite was crazy.
Anyways.......I guess something like that would probably be against "the rules" today. Sad.
A truly great man.
Edit: You can watch his full-length "Swamp Wise" documentary here if you're interested....... LINK..........

Highlight of elementary school was when that old crazy bastard would come by every year and toss a rattlesnake out on the gym floor.
That guy is a gem of Georgia

I remember this dude like it was yesterday, he came to my elementary school every year. Hands down it was always the best school assembly of the year.
Thanks for posting the videos, no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon

Grew up in Northwest Georgia, almost as far from the swamp as you can be in the Peach state and we all idolized Okefenokee Joe.

Oh my god, I totally forgot about him.
We also had Eustace Conway come live in a teepee on school property for about a week.

Yes!
I'm not exaggerating..... The first row of kids sitting on the floor was maybe 4 foot.....6 foot, tops....... from the pissed-off coiled-up rattlesnake he'd drop on the floor.............
Was awesome.

Lord of the Board is only "a couple years" removed from elementary school.

I remember Okefenokee Joe coming by my elementary school in the late 80's to show us 5th graders an Alligator he had in a trailer he had behind an old truck.
He did do a snake presentation at a Rock Eagle field trip I went to in middle school.

You might know my wife.... 4H gal from Banks Co, 1978... did camp down at Rock Eagle... they called her "Rattle Hand Rita" at camp... she like to sneak into the boys cabins and jack them off real fast.

"Red headed Rattle hand Rita" told me she didn't like pink peckers, she would only play with dark ones.
I missed out..
