Do we have any new whispers as to who may be coming on board?

We are looking for an OLB and 10th coach? Or are there any other positions that I'm missing.

You know, I was thinking about starting a thread for this very topic. I'm really curious about the 10th Assistant, for sure. I've been downing so much popcorn watching the unmitigated shite show on ice that was the UTk coaching search that I'd almost totally forgotten about losing Sherrer.

Do have anyone on staff that we promote from within? Or does Kirby look elsewhere? There was Tosh Lupoi talk when Kirby was putting the staff together. He's not a shoo-in for DC at Bama.

I think a dedicated QB coach is likely for the 10th spot. Jay Johnson would make sense since he's already on staff.

No idea on Sherrer's replacement. We'll probably wait until after the playoffs for that.

Jay Valai (defensive analyst) has taken Sherrer's spot on the recruiting trail for now it seems... Had heard Tyson Summers name thrown around as a long term replacement but yeah, probably won't know for sure until after bowl games are over.

Uncertain on the tenth spot... Seems if it's someone on staff already it would either be an offensive slot or special teams and put Beamer in a TE only role going forward... Leaning extra offensive/QB coach as well but Fountain has been a great addition this season.

Does Sherrer already being gone hurt us in any way going into the CFB playoff?

I wouldn' think so (aside from losing him as a recruiter). He coaches OLB...during the actual game what could he instruct Bellamy/Zo to do that they don't already know, or that Mel/Kirby can't point out?

once upon a time Hines Ward wanted to come back and coach at UGA...i'd take him as a 10th coach.

however, isnt' that was Hugh Freeze was been doing already? or was that all fake news?

I dont' know if I would. I mean yeah the guy can sit in a living room and show a super bowl ring but can he coach? To my knowledge he's never coached at any level of football. There's more to being a coach at this high a level than beign a good player.

Is he actually already gone? I hadn't seen confirmation one way or the other, but the rumor was that he was going to coach through the bowl game but recruit for UT (a la Kirby in transition mode). With Pruitt doing that at Alabama, would seem odd for Sherrer not to do the same.

Ugh. So many fans are enamored with this idea that Hines wants to coach for us. If he's not willing to either be a GA or a QC/Analyst first, do not want. He's never coached football at any level, he's never recruited... SEC coaching and college coaching in general is a grind. Guys that know Hines have said he wouldn't be willing to make the sacrifices necessary to do well as a coach in college... he's just got too many other irons in the fire. Would love it if it worked out, but not as a position coach initially IMO.

Not sure whether it was outright fake news... the UGA statement was very cleverly worded IMO. I don't think he'll end up being a coach for us but I don't think the story was completely false either...

Hines Ward

I can't imagine why anyone with that amount of money would want to deal with what is required of a CFB coach in a major program.

Not just no, but frick no. The guy has never coached a day in his life. He needs to earn his stripes and prove that he can coach before he is hired at UGA. He's one of my favorites but players of all time but it takes more than being a great player to be a good coach.

Hell... the reality is that *most* good players don't make good coaches. They have a hard time explaining the details of things that came to them naturally. Not to say it never happens, but it's often times a bit of an inverse relationship past a certain point. Hines was a grinder/athlete at WR... he wasn't the fastest guy always, so he has that going for him, but to think he'd be able to just step right into a position coach role seems willfully ignorant of how much work goes into being a good coach on a championship caliber staff.

Dan Enos doesn't have that no-compete clause anymore. He can coach quarterbacks? Might make more sense for him to coach QBs/TEs and move Beamer to just ST.

I'm just spitballing ideas.

That's my favorite option. Get the band back together with Chaney/Enos/Pittman, AND give them 4-5* talent to do their thing? Yes, please.

I don't think they were together. Enos was Chaney's replacement.

No, but Pittman and Enos were great together. There's a chain of association. Probably should've been more clear.

I'm with you on that.....reminds me of the people saying Peyton Manning should be the head coach at UT. I'm like Manning hasn't even coached a High School JV team and you want to do what?????

I was under the impression that it's a foregone conclusion that the Jay Johnston feller would be the one and that's the reason he's only making 50,000 this year.

It'd have to be an offensive coach one way or the other because otherswise you'd have 6 defensive coaches and 4 defensive coaches with the head coach also being a defensive coach

If he doesn't get grabbed up, would be a heck of a grab IMO... still a chance he ends up with an OC gig somewhere though, no? Has Jimbo officially hired one yet?
