Replacing Roquan Smith hasn’t been an easy task.

quote:

Dean, who hails from Horn Lake, Mississippi, could give the Bulldogs the speed they’ve lacked at the position since Smith left.

quote:

“He’s another Roquan,” senior defensive lineman David Marshall said on Tuesday. “He’s got speed, he’s fast. He’s smart. He already knows more plays than most of the other freshmen.”

quote:

“We’re not going to be be able to play until we get an elite-speed guy in there that can run and chase things down,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “We’re still looking for that.” Dean could be that elite-speed player. “He’s very intelligent, very instinctive,” Smart said. “He’s going to challenge some guys. He’s got to continue to learn.”

As a UGA fan, I'm excited about this guy. We seriously need someone like Roquan to take his place and IMO, Rice isn't it. If Dean is as good as everyone says (haven't seen him in any of the spring videos), I'm looking forward to see what he can do come August/Sept.

Oh the glorious hype season... I'm personally interested to see how Tindall makes it through Spring/Fall this year. I'd be more inclined to believe that he earns the trust to get in there and fill the Roquan role in 19... it's a lot to put on a kid's shoulders as a true freshman. If Dean is that guy, so be it... but Tindall flashed when given opportunities last year and he's been around long enough to have a better handle on the responsibilities.

Tindall looks like he has put on a lot of good weight. Expecting a good season from him.

Also, not sure how far he will climb the depth chart, but if you haven’t seen any practice pics of Quay Walker, so some googling. Kid looks like created player.

Good point. I just remember UGA fans were ecstatic about Dean when he chose UGA. I've seen some high school film on Dean and he looked pretty damn good even though HS is completely different from college.

I dont recall seeing Tindall play last year. I think I was probably more focused on Rice. Do you recall any particular game from last season that Tindall "flashed"? So I can go back and watch him.

But you are right-putting all that pressure on a Freshman (Dean) is a lot for a kid to come through on. I will definitely keep an eye out for Tindall this season.

Don't specifically remember which games, but seem to recall it was in the later half of the season. I think Kentucky was at least one of the games. Pretty sure he and Adam Anderson got a sack in that game?

Always good to have someone pushing you at LB, and good to have so many candidates. I remember seasons where we were so thin at LB talent that we already knew the starters by this time of year. I'd love to see McBride make some strides. Sounds like he's been working a lot on S&C.

100% this...

I hope he really is that damn good... because if he pushes Tindall and still takes the job, he's damn well earned it and we'll have a solid arse ILB rotation.

I believe the media and others were calling him that when UGA was trying to recruit him.

Tindall and 6'4 240lb Quay Walker. I think Walker has the potential be what Natrez Patrick, 6'3 243 never panned out to be. We got some serious talent at ILB
Quay Walker
Channing Tindall
Jaden Hunter
Nakobe Dean
Monty Rice
Tae Crowder

Every position on the team has too much talent with the exception of the DL which I think will be good.

Assuming he is the heir apparent to RS, it'll take Dean a solid 1.5 seasons to even approach the quality of play of an All Sec performer.

I'd just be satisfied with little to no dropoff from the reserves.

Important for fans to remember that it took Roquan 3 years to become Roquan. Doesn’t and won’t happen in year 1 especially at ILB. Roquan was devastating because he matched his speed and athleticism with his knowledge and understanding of the game and all the roles his teammates played. Dean can be that guy but it’ll take time

This... When you really look back at Roquan's JR footage, what stood out wasn't just that he was fast/strong... it was his ability to read, diagnose, and react to plays with incredible reaction time. That doesn't come as a freshman, it didn't even come for Roquan as a Sophomore. If we get anything approaching Roquan like talent out of Tindall or Dean this year we're in incredible shape. I'd take just a really solid 4 man rotation with no drop off though.

It’ll be impossible to keep Dean (and Nolan Smith) off the field. They’re as ready physically as most upper classmen. A ways to go from an understanding and discipline standpoint though. Comparisons to Roquan need to be taken with a grain of salt for awhile.

To someone else’s point, Quay Walker is the one to be excited about. Shizum. Dizum. That guy hits.

Agree. I’ll eat crow next April if I’m wrong, but Dean sees a lot of Action in 2019 and becomes the face of UGA defense moving forward. The optimism and hype is not from the coaches, it’s from some veterans talking internally and hinting to those around the program. Either way, it’s amazing how we resemble more of Bama last year and they resemble more of us last year. This program is where we’ve all wanted it to be for a long long time....

If you go back and watch the games any time you see a mlb in the backfield it’s Tindell. Dude is a threat to qb’s.
