I am finally getting out of LSU country (lived here 12 years) and moving back to the mother land. I have never lived in Warner Robbins, family used to drag race there back in the 80's. Good side of town/bad side of town? I will be living in Columbus for a month or so and driving back and forth everyday to Robbins AFB till I sell my house here in Shreveport. The wife is house shopping and I wanted some input from you guys that live there or have lived there, if you don't mind.

Grew up in Perry but haven't lived in GA in years. You should check Perry out too. 15 minutes away and a nice, small town. Houses might be a little cheaper too. Make sure to hit the NuWay for chili dawgs and burgers.

Ha, it wasn't so bad. Schools suck because they don't pay their teachers well at all here (have to try to get in Desoto Parish for a decent education) and crime is getting worse by the day (not as bad as 05 when the refugees came up, but it is getting bad again this year).

Well I am guessing you were serving at Barksdale?
First off thank you.

Yes the schools in Louisiana are terrible. Hence we always rank 50th is all the bad categories. It will ALWAYS be where i am from and proud of it.
But I moved to Georgia from Texas (born and raised in Baton Rouge) and I will never leave it (Sorry UGA people you are stuck with me) we love Georgia.
So welcome back.

Shreveport and Alexandria. Not places we like to claim...

Born and raised in WarTown but I left in 2000. I go back multiple times a year to visit the parental units.

Houston County is a good place if you're raising a family. Absolutely nothing to do and no city center, but if you have kids who cares. Interesting thing is that the llayout is backwards. Most places the north side of the county is the better side and the south side is more broke down. But in Houston County the better schools and quality of life are on the south end.

Fwiw Macon has gotten way less crappy. Downtown is less stabby and rapey than it used to be and there's actually been a revival and normal people live and hang out there.

That is what I hear and what I am looking for.

LMAO, that is also good news, first time I have heard something positive about Macon in a LONG time.

I laughed out loud on that one.
I wonder if the Chamber of Commerce is using that.

"Come to Macon, we are much less Stabey and Rapey"

look in either the houston county high school district or Veterans district. I would start my housing search in either Bonaire or Kathleen. There are new neighborhoods popping up all around the county and three being built adjacent to my neighborhood. I am not sure what you are wanting to spend on a house but if you can give me some details I can point you in the right direction.

Macon is still a shithole, but their downtown is policed pretty good. You get a couple of blocks from downtown proper and there can be issues. I work south of downtown in the industrial district.

Awesome, thanks. We will be looking to stay around 200K, at least 4 beds, 2 baths, not trying to live outside of our means, especially with the wife having to find a job once we move there.

If you have kids in Elementary School, I would look at the Matt Arthur Elementary school district which is the veterans High school district. Easy travel to base, but not near the traffic of Watson Blvd and Russell Parkway. Most all the new businesses are building from HWY 96 and down which is where most of the people are moving to.
House for sale

This is a house for sale in my neighborhood (they have it overpriced) which would be kinda what you would get at the price point you are looking at. This is the veterans school district, and no this is not my house so not trying to sell it to you

I live in Bellemeade subdivision and love it. Kathleen and Bonnaire are both nice. I would agree with staying in HOCO or Veterans district but nothing wrong with Perry.

Technically I live in Perry (city taxes) but have a Kathleen address, but I like going down to Perry, but most people moving into the area don't look that far south since there aren't a lot of new developments housing wise down that way, but it looks like the agricultural village is going to start bringing in some different businesses which will be good. Brannen Outdoors is a good gun store to compete with Chuck's and the Perry Sportscenter

What type of job would your wife be looking for. I might be able to give you some ideas of what companies to look at in the area, but Warner Robins industry is pretty well tied to the base so she might have to look in Macon (unless she is a school teacher, I wouldn't wish Bibb County Schools on my worst enemy).

HR/Admin stuff, I think Geico already contacted her but since we are not there yet she didn't interview. I am going to try to get her a GS job on base if I can, I have a few contacts there from my enlisted days.

I will definitely check these areas out when I get over there, very much appreciate the suggestions.
