Louis Riddick (ESPN NFL anylist and formerly high front office executive in the NFL) said

"The NFL is coming for Kirby Smart, get used to it Georgia"

Damn I hope some NFL team does not offer him some gigantic contact and we get outbid for him, I know he's a Georgia native and a UGA alum, but $ does talk in life, I hope we offer him somewhat competitive salary and his loyalty keeps him at UGA for 15+ years

I'd it wasn't his alma mater I would be more worried but I don't see that happening.

Kirby is a damn fine coach. But his biggest advantage is like Saban. It is recruiting. The NFL kinda takes that away.

This. The coaches who want to be in the NFL are there because they don't want to have to deal with the hassles of recruiting and dealing with NCAA regulations in general. UGA is a recruiting hot-bed; advantage Kirby who thrives on recruiting.

I certainly hope you guys are right, we need to pay him and the assistants after this season irregardless of what happens tonight.

I do think bring a Georgia boy and an alum will help keep him in Athens for A LONG time.

He does seem to enjoy recruiting and being around young guys, and I hope that stays with him for the next fifteen, twenty years

Isn't his wife from Athens too. If not, I know she is at least a Georgia graduate.

Wife played basketball at uga and they have little kids in Athens schools. They’re not leaving anytime soon.

Smart doesn't strike me as a guy that has any interest in the NFL.

Just like they have been coming for Saban too? I think, like Kirby, Saban's success is tied to recruiting the best players available. Don't get me wrong, the dude can flat our coach, but I think the other intangibles from roster management, to facilities, support staff and everything else that gives a program an edge is ultimately what will make him so successful.

None of that matters in the NFL. Those skills mean shite. its why Saban hasn't left and why Kirby won't either. Will NFL teams try? Sure. But Kirby is home and I don't see him leaving.

Louis Riddick is an idiot. Kirby had a stint with Saban and the Dolphins that wasn't enjoyable. UGA offers enough money and much better job security.

I would be willing to wager that Kirby and Saban probably discussed the pros and cons of going to the NFL at some length.
