Glad to have him on the team, he will be a contributor someday, maybe an All American.

But right now, he sucks.

Thomas is probably out for Mizzou. Let's accept that.

Do we start Mays or do we move RT I. Wilson over to LT and bump Kendall Baker to RT and let Mays sit the bench until he can develop better?

He's a beast of a run blocker so we need to stay out of 3rd and long

Mays looked good run blocking against SC, and average to sometimes bad last week, so coach him up and let him play until he shows ineffectiveness.

The kid has all the physical tools, but never had to develop technique because he had always been able to manhandle people. The best way for him to learn and develop is to get reps. If his mistakes are throwing the offense out of rhythm and Mizzou is pulling ahead then, sure, you have to try something new. If you can live with his mistakes at this point in the season, then let him take his lumps because it will pay dividends down the road.

Sucks is far from the correct way to describe him. He will be fine, give the man a chance.

Kirby talked about why he looked so good at South Carolina. He stated that Mays came in after the South Carolina defense had already been worn down and because of that were les effective.

I think the better question is what happens once A Thomas comes back. Obviously A Thomas is our LT while he is healthy, but with Cade at LG, Salyer/Hill at Center, with Ben at RG and I Wilson at RT and got damn you got a freaking boss of an oline. This may be more realistic for next year but damn we got some freaking talent.

I mean Gaillard and Kindley aren’t slouches. Gaillard especially.

Kindley and Gaillard have both been very, very good this year. No doubt that Gaillard is the leader along the line, and I don’t see him being replaced by anyone. Kindley has been beat in pass pro a couple of times this year, but so has Mays, and Kindley has been damn near perfect run blocking. I think Mays gets a lot of snaps as a rotational guy when Thomas returns, but I Donny think he takes anyone’s spot.

Dumb question... is cade mays better at drive blocking than Andrew thomas?

I understand that there is a lot more to being a starter on the OL than drive blocking. But Mays looks strong and powerful.

I can't say that I focused a ton on Andrew Thomas before his injury. I'm usually keying on the interior blockers when we are on offense. But it hasn't been hard to focus on Mays with his good plays and poor plays since coming in. He is fun to watch.

Andrew Thomas is the best player on the team. Also the best pro prospect, and it's not particularly close.

As soon as he is back from injury he will start and be our best OL by far. He will do the same next season and then exit for the draft, likely being taken in the top 5.

I mean I thought Mays played like a Freshman Saturday. Kid is a monster run blocker but struggles with Pass Protect, especially against the smaller and faster d-lineman like Tenn had.

Andrew T is a monster in both run and pass blocking and has elite technique so getting him back is essential....however....I feel like this weekend we will be fine without him so don't rush him back.

This reminds me of the John Theus situation.

I am pretty high up on Cade Mays...and his little brother whom we are recruiting pretty hard.

He will be fine but we may be aggravatted at him at times this season. After all, he is a freshman.

Mays is definitely more of a mauler, but you don’t need to drive your guy 10 yards down the field to be an effective run blocker. Using good leverage and your opponent’s momentum against him is just as effective. Thomas’ technique, footwork, and understanding of the nuances of the position are all head and shoulders above Mays right now. Thomas will be a first round pick, Right now you can’t confidently say the same about Mays.

He will play on Sundays. He doesn’t suck, he’s a freshman playing in the best conference in the country.

What sucks is your post!

I like Gaillard but as was stated, I was kinda looking more towards next year when we can have all young 4* and 5* BIG dudes on the line. I didn't even mention Hill who has gotten good playing time at LG already and then Salyer who is touted as one of the top interior linemen coming out of high school in a long time. Honestly, I can't blame the opposing defenses for quitting in the 4th quarter.

There was a time early in the recruiting process where Gaillard was a 5 star DL (top 30-35 player in the country). I think he dropped down to about top 100 in the country by the time the final rankings were out.

I think Gaillard will do great in college and fine in the NFL.
