A team that showed flashes of being really good returning everyone as well as the sec poty, we'll be a tournament team. Like WG said, if we can get decent post play, we'll be pretty damn good.

Didn't say we couldn't be a tournament team next year, just probably the NIT. If real lucky an 11 or 12 seed in the NCAA. But a five?

And where, pray tell, is this magical post play going to come from?

Not saying they won't be better, but it's like saying in football that a team that loses only 1 guy off of their last place defense will be really good next year. Bad is bad, and until new talented blood comes in it will continue to be bad or at best mediocre.

A 5 is incredibly unrealistic, but it's not a stretch to think we can't make the tourney. There were probably close to 10 games this year we lost in the final 2 minutes, it's not hard to think that next year with a more experienced team we can't turn a few of those.

Gaines taking all of Brantley's minutes will only help, I don't see any downside to that. I have nothing bad to say about Vincent, he really played well this year, but Mann already looks to be better and he can drive and create shots. That's an upgrade. Morris was only a freshman and he showed flashes. Nemi is above average and can score in the paint. KCP is KCP. All we need is for Donte to take it to the next level and we're a pretty capable team.

I don't think he sucks, he's just in a bad situation. Nate Hybl didn't do diddly squat while he was here, then he went on to flourish at oklahoma. Sometimes a kid just needs a change of scenery. Personally, I think the kid is really homesick, went to UCLA at the urge of folks around him even if he didnt' necessarily want to, got a little lazy, and is on a team with some stars. If he were to come back here and be around his home/friends/family, and could be a piece that we so desperately need, I think you'd see his game pick up dramatically.

Rumor has it that he's leaving the team when their season is over.

This is my point. He is nowhere close to doing this. Will show a flash once or twice a game, but I personally don't think it's in his DNA.

Color me dubious.

FWIW...Coupla posts on Scout by Legge indicating Tony Parker is headed to UGA & might not have to sit out a year....

Wouldn't UCLA have to get in NCAA trouble for this to be the case??

Tony's on twitter talking about how he doesn't like California and will be home within the next 2 days. In addition, there are reports that Ben Howland has been fired as head coach at UCLA...

UCLA is firing their coach. Could that be a reason?

If Parker comes he needs to bring this guy with him...

quote:

Korey McCray begins his second season as an assistant coach at UCLA in 2012-13.

Most recently, McCray helped UCLA land the nation's No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2012 (as rated by ESPN.com), an incoming group which was also hailed as the No. 2 class by Scout.com and Rivals.com.

Prior to his arrival at UCLA in the spring of 2012, McCray had been working as a skill development trainer since 2004 with some of the NBA's biggest stars. Working with NBA athletes based in Atlanta and surrounding Georgia communities, McCray created tailor-made offseason training programs for players including Dwight Howard, John Wall, Javaris Crittenton, Anthony Morrow, Jarrett Jack, Acie Law, Von Wafer, Mario West and Damien Wilkins, among others.

McCray served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Mercer University (Macon, Ga.), in 2007-08 under head coach Mark Slonaker. In 2004-05, he was an assistant coach at Chipola Junior College (Marianna, Fla.) under head coach Greg Heiar. That season, Chipola JC lost in the semifinals of the National Junior College Championships.

We passed over him once we need him to recruit those AAU kids for us. We need Fox to fire someone......and hire him. He may well be available if Howland is fired.

If Parker transfers and their coach is fired does he still has to sit out a year right?

He couldn't transfer without penalty just because his coach was fired...

But Dean over at scout thinks UCLA is gonna get hammered for recruiting infractions & the sanctions will give Parker an out. Like at USC & PSU in football where underclassmen could transfer without penalty...
