We thought we were done with this a-hole as UGA police chief.

Now he's running for sheriff of Oconee County.

He's probably going to win.

Sick Naban executive order #14- if you are driving from Athens to Atlanta (or vice versa), you must go through Jackson County to I-85 and come down that way. Do not pass through Oconee County.

GA 316 is shut down until further notice.

High. The current sheriff, who is loved, is retiring.

He could never beat the incumbent.

But if the incumbent says "frick this guy" the he'll lose.

But the incumbent has too much class to do that.

It's up to us.

Rig, Did you finally make the move??

You are correct the incumbent is loved here. Extremely nice guy...

I am actually sad our current Sheriff is ending his term. If you haven't followed the Oconee County Sheriff facebook page you have missed out on some comedy.

Plus he is VERY pro 2nd amendment which for most of us Oconee is extremely important in a Sheriff.

Scott Berry was a boss. When Widespread took over the streets in 97(?), he set up signs on 316 in Oconee County saying there was a road block with drug sniffing dogs ahead. Everyone who tired to avoid it turned right on the next dirt road. Too bad that was where the traffic stop was set up.

Huh. So I read the article

"Williamson said he was disappointed that the state law does not require any safety training for those who apply for and receive a permit to carry a weapon and that he thinks arming teachers is a mistake"

The first comment I kind of agree with. When I got my concealed licence here I was suprised I didnt have to pass some sort of test with some proficiency shooting. In texas you have to take a 2 day course and pass proficiency shooting (its not hard)
Here I handed them 60 bucks and they were like "here you go" as an avid supporter of the 2nd amendment even I was like "really?"

But the second comment just cost him my vote. My old city in Texas (Argyle) did that. I was very proud of our ISD.
They actually posted this sign at the school entrance. I have asked Prince Avenue to consider it. Dont think they agreed ;-)

He's right on both counts. People like you have been watching too many Dirty Harry movies. Arming teachers is a moronic idea. I guess to you more guns is always the answer.

As a former teacher, I wouldn’t trust 75% of the people I worked with to operate a gun under duress even with comprehensive training. It’s a well intentioned thought to protect our kids but it’s a horrible idea in practice.

Plenty of ex military work as teachers. 25% percent is plenty, heck 5 % is plenty.

The only thing that affects these mass shootings is the amount of time it takes to get another gun to the sight.

Many of these shooters turn their gun on themselves once a good guy with a gun arrives.

The question is framed inappropriately.

Allowing a teacher who is trained and compliant to maintain their second amendment right is different from a school arming teachers.

There are hero teacher stories where a teacher chose to stand in front of a student to take bullets from a shooter. No one claims that the school board is sacrificing teachers as armor for the kids.
If a teacher chooses to remain compliant with strict standards in order to maintain a fire arm on his/her person...that is not the same as arming teachers. It is the same as allowing a teacher to choose to put his/her life at risk for the sake of the students.

The problem is the double-standard.

You have a school resource officer who is charged with a crime for not stopping a heavily armed shooter.
Yet, the same laws prevent help/assistance to the school resource officer from other persons present at the scene.

A school resource officer is a great idea in principle. But to present it as a solution to a prepared assailant(s) is assinine. So which is it? Are guns in the hands of good people bad or good?

Schools are targets for 2 reasons.
1) they are ill protected.
2) they create the most media/hysteria/terror.

We can't change #2.
What could change #1?

Not always - there have been instances of unarmed people charging a shooter and taking them down. Granted, one or more of the folks who charge usually get themselves killed or wounded in the process....

Unless you consider the Teachers' Union a "well-regulated militia", the 2nd amendment most certainly does agree.

Correct its mutally exclusive

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual right to keep and bear arms AND the right to a well regulated militia.

There’s a difference between arming teachers and allowing teachers to be armed.

I’m all for the latter ....even if it required extra or recurring training.
