ESPN Championship Drive Who’s in:

He straight up said I’ve already made up my mind that Alabama and Michigan are the two best teams and nothing’s going to change that.

He also said if Georgia wins it doesn’t mean they’re better than Bama it just means they won that day. I can agree with that logic during the regular season but not in the SEC championship.

Bama made the playoffs last year ONLY because Ohio State had 2 losses. If everyone above us wins out and we beat Bama then I don’t see them getting in.

I feel like if you are deciding between two teams you always go with the conference champ IF they have equal or less losses than the team who didn’t win their conference.

Not sure why that should be a worry for us, at present.

If Alabama is 12-0 and we beat them in the SECCG, then the Playoff Committee will find a way to put both teams in. Even though Notre Dame gets all kinds of breaks from the NCAA, I think they will get dropped, unless Michigan or Clemson lose a game.

I will take that scenario. We beat Bama and we're in. Let the committee decide the last spot should be Bama's. They would play Clemson, we would play Michigan/ND/OU.

If everyone above us wins out I don’t see it. There’s no way in hell an undefeated Clemson or Notre Dame gets left out. The only debate would be Michigan vs Bama. I see Michigan winning that argument as they are both 1 loss teams who both lost to top 5 teams BUT the tie breaker is Michigan is conference champ.

OU will have to play West Virginia two games in a row to win the B12 and finish with only 1 loss. That will be very hard to do.

Not to mention, Michigan's loss came at the beginning of the season, while Alabama's would have been at the end.

Most of these folks are just filling airtime right now, because none of them legitimately expect us to have a chance against Bama.

Right now, we need to focus on getting our OL/DL healthy, getting our freshmen as much playing time as possible against UMass, and then not subbing our toe against GT.

Is Mora on the selection committee?

If not why do you care what he says about it?

The Irish should get left the phuck out. Get in a conference already. How is it right for them to be chillin while everyone is playing for a conference championship. They should have to play a extra game from a power 5 at least to qualify for the playoff.

if they go undefeated why should they? They would have wins over michigan, stanford, VT, usc, and a somehow highly ranked syracuse. I'm no ND fan but they'd have a good case.

Assuming the acc, big 10, big 12 champs plus ND all have 0-1 loss, bama isn't making the playoffs if they lose to us.

UCF last year. They beat 3 ranked teams and still didn't get in.

Playing fewer games also gives fewer chances for a loss, especially when a conference championship is very likely to be against another ranked opponent, and thereby a decent chance at a loss. It also gives the team longer to recover from injuries, etc.

That said, ND has pretty much always been treated as a special case, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

what happened last year has zero bearing or input on this year.

they beat 2 ranked teams in the regular season; memphis twice (finished ranked 25th) and USF (finished ranked 21st). That's why they didn't make it, because they played absolutely nobody. Notre Dame had a better win in week 1 of this year than memphis had all of last yera.

It sets precedent. If one undefeated team can be excluded in favor of a one loss team, so can another.

It probably had more to do with economics than anything. UCF doesn't have a huge fanbase and isn't followed particularly closely compared to Alabama. TV ratings (and hence advertising pricing) and butts-in-seats were going to be higher with one-loss Alabama than with undefeated UCF.

Notre Dame is a far bigger draw than UCF, but the precedent has been set - being undefeated doesn't guarantee you a spot.

UCF plays a shite schedule and didn't bother to reschedule make up games for the game that was canceled last year and this year. Notre Dame schedule was solid, not their fault some usually good teams shite the bed.
