It's sad to see kids who wanted to play for UGA exist stage left, but pruning unhealthy leaves lets the rest of the plant grow stronger.

Aaaaaaand there's 85. Hate to see him go, though.

What about the notre dame guy? How does that fit in?

Pretty sure we're at 85 with him. Also some rumblings that another player could be on the way out and that Kirby might be seeking additional depth on the Dline in the grad transfer market.

Likely be another transfer or two before fall camp. You can basically bank on the notion that we will be at 85 each and every fall.
Must be said that Kirby's "bottom of the roster" guys/late additions have been great so far.

All this processing is bad for the kids.

Good for the team and the fans though.

Is it processing if a kid doesn't develop to the level expected and can clearly see that he has been passed over on the depth chart by multiple, younger players, and then seeing that reality decides to transfer to a school where he has a chance of playing the sport he loves in a more prominent role?
Kirby is pretty transparent in the aspiration to recruit the best available players at all times and let the chips fall where they may. Not having that mindset is how you end up in a situation where you have 69 players on scholarship (see: UGA, 2012).

Sucks for him, but at some positions, we're just flat out having to make cuts like an NFL team.
Say it out loud: D'Andre Walker, Walter Grant, Brenton Cox, Adam Anderson, Quay Walker.
Guy wasn't going to see the field again. Hopefully he finds a place where he can flourish.

Plus, Kirby probably gave him two options.
Be a Dawg for life and finish your career here where you might get some mop up duty or a few snaps on special teams.
or
You can transfer. No strings attached. We still love you and wish you the best.

Jake Rowe has us at 86 scholarships right now.
And who was it on here that said you can never have more than 85 scholarship players on the team at one time?

I think we've got til some time in August to trim it down to 85.

That is what I've alway read on 247. But we had a 10 page thread a couple of years ago trying to convince me that we can't go 1 day over 85.

I agree, this stuff didn’t happen much under richt and I think some guysbdidnt reach their full potential because of it. If they’re seeing people actually get cut then they’re going to give it 100% if they really want to stay. You can have all the talent you want and run over high schoolers but if you aren’t ready to take that to the next level and develop it then there’s no need wasting a scholarship on you.

The rule is no more than 85 at the start of fall camp.
