Is it possible to fix what needs fixing so quickly?

This loss looks like shades of LSU for the past decade. Above average to elite defense behind an outdated offense and questionable coaching at times.

We have the talent and recruiting to theoretically run just about any scheme we want, so that shouldn't be a concern.

If you're UGA right now, you've got Kentucky - who should be worse than even USCe, a bye, then Florida. How can you fix bad game management and a stagnant offense in a few weeks? Has Kirby even shown that he wants to change anything? When do you consider that Coley has to go?

Referring to Auburn parts 1 and 2, I assume. Is it a case of never as bad or good as it seems?

We can fix it enough to beat Florida, Mizzou and Auburn.

Bama in the SECCG? Not a chance.

Call me an alarmist but I’m worried about Florida. We definitely won’t be able to rely on halftime adjustments.

Very likely UF has a better D than we do and it’s going to be a case of offensive cripple-fight.

I am worried about them too but we can beat them. We actually have a very good d that will give them trouble.

The only thing that will "fix" this team is a new innovative offense. Our offense is just ridiculously predictable. So predictable that even a mediocre SC defense was able to hold us to just 17 points. We have good players but mediocre coaching.

Everyone in the stadium knows when we are going to hand it off to Swift.

We had 2nd down and 8 and I noticed all S.Car. LBs and several DBs stepping up close to the LOS. Result, a gain of 2.

Here's the difference between us and previous versions of LSU. With the exception of Mettenberger they went all those years without having a reliable passer. That made them easy to defend scheme wise.

However we have a damn fine thrower in Fromm.

I don't think there's anything wrong with our offensive philosophy. Chaney ran basically the same thing and we were unstoppable most of the time.

I think there are two basic problems. One is that Coley is just not as adept at Chaney in keeping defenses off balance and creating mismatches. The other is that our young receivers just are not getting open. Even when Fromm gets a completion he's having to squeeze the ball into tight windows.

Actually those were two of the biggest question marks heading into the season and we are still seeking answers.

Our entire offensive identity is broken. It’s not being fixed this year.

It will only be fixed in the future if

A. Kirby realizes he’s made a huge mistake and fires Coley after this season.

B. We pony up $2.5M+ and hire a bonafide stud of an OC.

C. Kirby also realizes that he is a huge part of the problem and adopts the strategy of Dabo and Orgeron by staying out of the game planning and in game calls as much as possible.

Realistically, none of the above are going to happen.

IF Kirby was serious about fixing things, he would go ahead and kick off back channel/agent conversations. The following would have a 3 year, $3M a year offer to sign or turn down the day after the season:

1. Joe Brady - passing coordinator @ LSU
2. Tony Elliott - co-OC @ Clemson
3. Chad Morris - current HC @ Arky

Chad Morris inherited a poor man's UGA personnel wise at UA and he's still struggling to make his system fit. I'd take a pass on him. I think the other two would certainly be shooting for the stars but maybe a bit unrealistic for us to pull-off.

I liked the Chaney pick because as a D-coordinator who opposed him Smart says he was tough to defend. I'm not sure anybody would say that about Coley. Maybe Smart thought the same thing about Eddie Gran? Thus the aborted attempt to poach (alledgedly) Anyway I feel like THAT's the kind of hire he needs to make - a diamond in the rough that he admires from having had to go against them.

No one is unrealistic if you are willing to break the bank.

Why do you think LSU pays Dave Aranda $2.5M a year?

Chad Morris being a not so great SEC head coach has no bearing on the fact that he is an outstanding OC. Hell, he saved Dabo Swinney’s career at Clemson.

There are other options than the ones I listed, but if you really think someone like Coley or Chaney are the best we can do, then we should just shut the program down, because we won’t ever win a title.

Mike Bobo and his 35 PPG will suffice just fine. Would be a plus in recruiting, also.

I think all three that I named and many others would be superior to Bobo today, but Bobo would be much better than the pile of shite we have now.

The bottom line is, there won’t be a change made. Kirby is too arrogant, and making an OC change would require him to admit that he made a mistake, which is something he doesn’t do.
