I love UGA but the admin has really made some pooch screwing decisions throughout the years. I had some fans mad at me when I said I loved Dooley as a coach but not as an AD. We are still paying for some of his decisions.

Listen... Goff was RB coach in 88... Dooley was HC, but he was not there 1/2 the time. He was hangning on for his 200 wins and was setting himself up for a shot at Guvnuh. He literally was not at practice and when he did show up, he would go up in the tower and watch like some Roman God.
Coach Haffner and Coach Lewis ran the day to day stuff. Coach Goff was a Bike short wearing, fake Southern boy acting douche. Once they got there, no one liked Goff. He was a nobody on the staff. Coach Sherman had more respect than Goff ever had in 87.
The best we could figure is Goff was tight with one of the big boosters... I will throw GA Crown out there...
Things got nasty pretty quick... rumors were that someone told the politicos of Dooley's girlfriends on the recruiting trail and all of a sudden he was going to stay at UGA as AD and not run. Coach Lewis went to ECU... thank Christ... and we all assumed Coach Haffner would get the job. Coach Russel was not being talked about....actually, Coach Sherman was talked about more than anyone other than Coach Haffner... Coach Sheridan recruited me and we spoke about the UGA job after the fact and I do not think he was offered, but who knows?
When we played in the Gator Bowl, we were told about Goff and everyone was stunned... Goff looked stunnded too.... Coach Haffner got fricked... it was his job and I have no idea why how Goff got it... Goff was a joke amongst the players and he moved from joke to a-hole... I can not convey how shocked everyone was when we were told he was coach... I assume it was coach Dooley who made it happen... the why is open for debate, but it damn sure was not due to talent or experience...

Coach Sheridan
A buddy of mine was playing for him up at NCST at the time. He stated what's already been said in here. That he was offered the job and had decided to take it but the media leaked the story and he backed off.

Dang, that's crazy. Thanks for the read.

Goff did have the drunken redneck (Leeberns support) as well state rep. Larry Walker (who was a pretty big deal at the time)...maybe Haffner deserved a shot but he never accomplished much at all in the coaching field after the Goff hire (I believe he was HC @ one of the La. directional schools.

So you played ball at UGA in the mid to late 80's?
Well holy crap....please tell us all!
I'm shocked at the revelation that Dooley had girlfriends. I always thought he was a very straight and narrow type of guy.

Perhaps I made it all up?

I will add that I have no knowledge of any girlfriends... just know that people have said as much about it as the reason why he did not run. He had a good name and I guess he knew running for office would expose him to a lot of scrutiny. Beyond that, there are just rumors and assumptions I guess...

Goff had Don Leebern and Larry Walker supporting him to be HC. That was all he needed. FYI, Dooley did not run because some of the numbers got back to him, and he realized not everyone in the state was a UGA fan/grad.

Well I believed you. Were you lying? The way you wrote it sounded like you were insider, a possible player. Am I right?
