I feel we may be setting our standards too high for 2018... but still... in Smart I trust...

Agreed. Continue to hear there may be a little fire to the smoke around Swift and Zeus and their limitations. Not sold on the front 7 either, though Clark, Walker, and Grant have shown flashes. Roquan was responsible for making that defense work last year and his athleticism covered a lot of sins. I think everyone expects the defense to take a step back, but I’m not as bullish on the offense being able to cover for them.
I expect nailbiters at USC, LSU, against Auburn, and potentially Florida.

Would love to hear some of the smoke/fire around swift and Zeus.
Expect both at 100% to open season.

I don't know. You win in the trenches. Offensively, we should be optimistic.
Logically, it can be said that we have a step (or half step) backwards at RT and LT. Expectations shouldnt be at all American at LT or freshman all American at RT.
But the depth, talent, and experience on the interior is so promising. We have the opportunity to be great (and we weren't last season) at guard and center.
The only question is finishing drives with touchdowns. And there wasnt many better at QB than fromm for that.
Defensively, I like our starters in the trenches. But we have questions about quality depth. If we are healthy, we can be fine.
Losing Roquan just means that others have to step up. Primarily, that might be LeCounte and Reed.

Good news for us is even with losing who we did, thanks to smart and the recruiting we will be more talented then almost every team we face this year. Talent wont be a problem. Time to see how Kirby developed players as I am expecting this thing to turn into a treadmill of talent.
Leadership is what I am worrying about. Who will lead this team? Last year it was plain to see who led, but this year I am anxious to see what happens.
Even if we regress a bit on Defense and Offense we should still win 10 games cause the East sucks and we have more talent then everyone else.
Will we win the SEc and beat bama? Probably not, but who knows. I'm just ready to watch some games lol

I dont get the narrative that we will be light on the defensive line.
We lost Atkins and Trent, and Trent was hurt for part of the season.
Jay Hayes is coming in, and is probably better than either of the two guys we lost. Devonte Wyatt is finally on campus. and all of our guys from last year are all a year older.
Ledbetter
Clark
Rochester
Hayes
Wyatt
Herring
Carter
Barnett
Hawkins-Muckle
I think we will have more depth at d-line this year than we've had in a long time.

Rumors of lingering groin issues with Swift and a slower than expected recovery for White.
At this point, it's a lot of speculation. We won't get a clearer picture of where they stand until we start getting those late August practice reports.

Largely the unsung hero of that line from last year. Take a look at our stats with him on the field and with him off... I saw them written up somewhere, but ultimately, he was one of those guys that just makes things work. We don't really have a direct substitute for him at this point unless Jordan Davis ends up way ahead of the curve.

Everything I've seen, heard, and been told indicates that Swift is good to go and Zamir is ahead of schedule in his (routine, may I add) recovery from ACL recon w/o complications.

I expect Hawkins-Muckle to be improved and to see some of Rochester sliding down to nose.

That is a huge concern.
2016 (that 2013 recruiting class killed us), the team leaders were the juniors. 2017, those same leaders got the job done.
This is a valid point. But this 2015 class is providing us Godwin, Ledbetter, Patrick, Walker, and Baker. It isn't a huge group. But it is a core that could be much more effective than the team was in 2016.

I think Fromm will also be able to lead this year. I think the kid is a natural leader and even as a freshman had a part in the leadership last year.
I am hoping Fromm steps up and helps lead.
Season can't get here soon enough

I’m not worried a lick about leadership. If you want to know who the team leaders are, you can have it in a picture
On the couch L to R: Holyfield, Lecounte, Natrez, Walker, Ledbetter, Reed, Taylor
Standing L to R: Gaillard, Clark, Thomas (4th from right), Woerner, Fromm
Not pictured are guys like Baker and Godwin who are also going to be vocal leaders

think our rivals will say Holyfield's arms are shopped again?

Jay Hayes will be our fill in for Atkins. Honestly not worried about our front 7 minus the simple fact that as good as Monty Rice might be he won’t be Roquan good. More worried about who plays Corner opposite Baker and how Lecounte does full time at FS

How Webb’s knee coming along? Campbell has to be the favorite for the other side if Webb isn’t gonna be around?
