I’m a little disappointed that the players elected to not participate in the NIT

Sure, they’re in an awkward and difficult situation. But in life, you have to take every chance as an opportunity to get better. That’s the mindset I hope our players would take at least.

Their coach just got fired. They've been to the NIT the last two years. They're banged up. I completely understand why they would not want to play in the NIT.

I understand it but I would hope they realize there’s more going on than just what they want. I want players hungry to prove themselves and grow their skills.

So it's not that what they want doesn't matter, it's that they don't want the same thing you want them to want?

This season is over, whether they played 1-4 more meaningless games or not. They've been to the NIT enough times to know how pointless it is, and they probably just want to move on at this point.

The season is over because they didn't want to finish it.

Well playing in the NIT has helped us so much over the years...

I’m disappointed just because I’m one of the few who actually enjoys it.

Pretty sure they get some $$ and swag to play. Can’t imagine them passing that up unless they are unhappy with UGA.

I honestly don’t see why it’s up to the players. The University should decide whether they play in the NIT, not the players. Period.

Fox rubbed off on them in a bad way. It was a weak minded team that didn't know how to finish a game.....or a season.

Hard to argue with this perspective. A team is usually a reflection of the attitude/training of their coach unless the team is completely detached from their coach aka out of control which might be the case to some extent with this team. No one is excited about an NIT invite but there is little doubt that declining the invite sends a negative public message. But hopefully with a new coach it will be a message that we expect to be part of the NCAA Tournament every season.

For players to walk away from per deim and swag, it was likely an emotional response for losing their coach. AD probably didn’t care as NIT ends up costing $$ if I recall.

I don't see blaming fox for the players mentality in declining an nit invite.

Would I want the players to compete? Yes

Would I want the players to go out of duty and get blown out? No. They don't have a head coach. They are a rudderless boat. I don't see this as a big deal. Part of the process of firing a coach that was well liked in Athens. Youve got to appreciate that the players loved him. And appreciate that we now have an opportunity to move on.

Rudderless? It's basketball, not rocket science.

Well, Fox would have been able to coach them through the NIT if the team wanted...Now, whether he is a real head coach or not is another debate.

I'm disappointed we're still talking basketball.

Oh captain, my captain.

It is collegiate sport.
Leadership matters at this level.
Otherwise... why care about the next hire?

Did you make the same point when richt was fired before the bowl game? We won without a head coach

I wish they would play but get why they wouldn't want to. This has likely been a very shitty and emotionally draining season, and spring break is probably looking pretty good right about now.

I can make the same argument.
Bryan McClendon and John Lily were in charge of the offense and Kevin Sherrer was in charge of the defense. McClendon and Sherrer are rising studs in the coaching ranks. UGA football was not short on leadership going into the Tax slayer Bowl.

We had the leadership and should have fought/won against James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.
