Pregame vs South Carolina:
"They got a great football team," Smart said. "We gotta get our arse ready to play. Our team is not ready to play right now. We gotta get our team ready to play. We have to get ready to execute. It is going to be a physical, tough game."
Why? Why didn’t the coaches have them ready to play?
Swift:
"Some people said they didn't feel... They just felt Saturday was... They didn't feel normal," Swift said. "Some people felt weird during pre-game. I'm not sure what was going on but we just weren't on the same page Saturday."

At a certain point the coaches can only do so much. If the players don’t heed their warnings or leaders don’t lead the coaches can’t go out and play for them

And blamed a lot of it on the 12pm start.....not like they have never had a nooner before. Try again Kirby...look at the guy on the other end of the headset and kick him in the arse.

Then why doesn’t this happen to Alabama?
You’d think Kirby being cut from the same cloth would be able to prevent this.

Alabama was tied at the half with Citadel last year. It can happen sometimes. But for the most part the more dominant team is going to win over four quarters. The four turnovers we had made that so much more difficult.

I guess nobody in this thread ever played sports. Or if they did, they were the extremely rare person who gets fired up for every game. But for everybody else, waxing and waning of motivation happens all the time, on their job, in their relationshps, in their life. And if the immediate circumstances don't seem particularly threatening, they relax, and sometimes get eaten by a wolf. Nothing new here.

Alabama has laid plenty of eggs. Maybe not as bad as losing to a 25 point dog, but they do this too. Oddly, much less now that they discovered offense.....

Bingo. Alabama has an elite offense now. Allows more room for error.

So what you’re saying is that if we abandon the 1980s style offense that this would be less likely to happen?

You might be on to something. What’s the point of all these great athletes if they don’t get the ball? I’m not saying go all mike leach and only run 10-15 times per game but we should certainly get a little more loose.

Two reasons teams win: (1) they're better than the other team; (2) they are luckier than the other team. Turnovers are - more or less - a random event. Georgia wound up on the wrong side of the exchange.
The power of luck (really, random chance) has long been recognized: contra felicem vix deus vires habet – “against the lucky even the gods are powerless”

I have good days and bad days at work too. The difference is I work 40+ hours a week. I don’t get to practice my job all week and then only have to perform 12 to 15 times a year with tens of thousands of fans cheering me on. There is no excuse for a player to “not be up” for a game.
And a UGA player is targeted to get the ball on every offense play. We can’t use the tight ends more. Throw downfield more give it to Cook more. Etc. Every touch by a player is a choice over the others.
We just need to execute on every play like it matters.

Teams come out flat ALL the time for whatever reason. You actually think SC will have the same intensity against UF this Saturday? I can promise you they won't and they won't be as prepared simply because they had an extra week to prepare vs us.
Hell,Bama came out flat against us the SECCG game last year.

That’s fricking bullshite.. Their QB was to big of a flaming count to finish the game.

What? Did you watch the 1st half? It was the worst half they played all season. They were 14 pt favorites and had steamrolled the entire west.
We absolutely had something to do with it but they sure as hell weren't at the top of their game.

For good or for bad, Kirby is nothing like Saban.

Teams are scheduling their bye for UGA. Noon starts get mundane for most of these dudes. No real excuse, just a small reason why they start lackadaisical.
I'd expected the ND game to get them hitting the floor running afterwards. Perhaps a loss propels them like it has against Auburn and LSU as it did recently.
If they start out flat against UK, the season is probably going to be a lost cause.

Teams don't get to schedule their bye's. Their schedules are dictated to them.

Can't they request dates in future schedules?
I know Spurrier made it a huge priority to get an off week before they played us and we eventually did the same.
