How Will We Use Fields Next Season

Given that he is a dual threat QB could we see him line up in a wild dawg or option type plays? Anything else to get him some snaps? Highly doubt we redshirt him

I think a redshirt would be better, to get a year of separation between him and Fromm. Whether they can do that is debatable, because he is one play away from being the starter, as we saw last year.

From what I've read, we will have special packages for him

No telling in all likelihood until we see spring (and subsequently fall) practices. We know what we *expect* him to do, but Kirby is pretty consistent on that front. My *preference* would be to red shirt him if possible to create a year of separation, but with no other scholarship QBs on the roster, I see him being the backup unless it's for something as simple as Fromm's helmet getting popped off (though with RS rules changing a bit, may not be as necessary any longer to worry about that quite as much).
Assuming he's not redshirted, then some specialty packages would seem likely to maximize value over the course of the season. If he really performs at a high level, you could see a Tua like utilization in the second half if we're able to get up by 20+ in games at any level of consistency this year.

QB run game for sure. Gives us a huge advantage schematically. They can’t out number us in the box without bringing both safeties in the box. If that happened we’d throw the ball over the top.
I could see him being used as DJ Shockley was throughout David Greene’s career. Kirby shows he will play whoever gives us the best chance to win so it’s not impossible Fields could beat out Fromm.
The QB run game is so valuable and it’s so hard to stop if the QB can really sling it with accuracy.

I don’t think you can redshirt him at all. I think we have the guys battle it out and I project Fromm to win the battle. I then think we may do something similar with Fields we did with D.J. Shockley in Richt’s early years. Jake would get two series and Fields play the third.
I think you see him run the Wild Dawg in special plays as well. That dude is just going to be a weapon. If I am Chaney, I would have a ball coming up with Fields packages.

I believe that fields in the wild dawg would just be the shotgun..

I highly doubt he gets a red shirt. Will be gone in 3 years. I think he will come in on 2 or 3 drives a game. Or if we happen to be losing we could see Fields. To many things that could happen. Come on G Day!

Unless Fields is good enough to beat Fromm outright or is called on due to an injury I don't see why either him or Smart would want to do anything other than redshirt him. This would give him 2 years of separation from Fromm and time to develop. Frankly, I don't think it does a QB any good to get thrown to the wolves as a freshman (ala Eason) and for a QB time to develop in college prior to making a run at the NFL seems to be the better approach.
We can work him in after next year but no reason to burn a year of eligibility just so he gets a few snaps in the wilddawg or in garbage time.

Are there any examples where a QB gets drafted in 3 years only playing "2 or 3 drives a game"? I keep hearing about how Eason and now Fields will be these great NFL prospects and leave college early - where Eason hasn't taken a snap in a year and Fields hasn't even enrolled yet.
Also, I admittedly haven't watched all of the fields highlights but what struck me was he either a) threw deep or b) took off running. Now granted, those are more exciting highlights but who knows how well this guy can run an offense coming right out of HS.

That was in reference to next year not all 3 years come one now.

That is what I would do, he is a potential generational QB. You have Fromm who just led the team as a FR. to the National Title game. You get two more years out of him at best because he is a quintessential NFL QB. Use Fields in 2019 in certain situations to get him experience and he is your starter for the following two years.
Boom 2-3 National Titles.

We don't have another back up. Might as well let him get slop up work and situational playing time in case we have to go to him during the year.

I think a lot of people are sleeping on Stetson Bennett... Do I want him starting for us in all likelihood? No. But filling in as a backup for a game, or closing one out is different. Unless Fields forces his way onto the field, I could see a scenario where Stetson is the #2 man in order to preserve Fields' redshirt. As I said, anything at this point is pure conjecture. Let's see how the practices actually go before trying to predict anything.

We will plug him in the second half of the championship game. Fields to Ridley TD to win the whole thing in overtime.

Our defense will be a lot better with him in practice. Can you imagine the looks he can give our first team defense. The newbies better grow up fast. That kid is going to ball out.

We need to redshirt him. Get some separation between him and Fromm. JMO.

this.
Eason just rolled out and Fields redshirt went with him. Anybody that things otherwise is a fool and doesn't know anything about CKS or football in general.

That would be me so help me be smarter.
If we have S. Bennett as back up and keep Fields off the field - and Fromm never gets injured. How is this bad for Fields to have another year of eligibility in exchange for a few series here and there or play in garbage time?
If Fromm does get hurt, and S. Bennett can't get it done, does the red shirt have an anchor and chains that prevent Fields from being brought in if needed?
Caveat being something happens to Fromm in a game and puts the win at risk unless you play Fields.

Red shirt is something that just happens, not something that is declared and etched in stone. Although nothing is predetermined, I think Kirby would like his backup QB to have some live experience. Fields isn't likely to use four years of eligibility so a red shirt year has no benefit.
