I am about to buy a new grill/smoker/pit. I am deciding between a Kamado Joe Big Joe and a Rec Tec Smoker. I’m strongly leaning Kamado Joe.
Would anyone like to talk me out of that, or if not, let me know where they have found the best deals on Kamados.
Thanks in advance.

You might laugh but I cook everything on a Pitt Boss. It’s a little more maintenance than the higher end models but I have zero problems with it.

We own 2 BGEs, so I'm firmly in the ceramic/kamado camp.

Rec Tec bulls have a gayness about them, lengthy topic on food board.

I have a Big Green Egg. Best investment I ever made. Thing is awesome.
But its like a Harley Davidson. Its not the actual item that costs the most. Its all the over priced crap you get for it like Cast Iron half moon grate for Steaks, Pizza stone, roasters, side tables, starters etc.
With that said, we use it twice a week at minimum. We cook all kinds of things on it from Smoking, to Normal BBQ, Pizza, Cedar plank Salmon, Bread you name it.
Its awesome.
I heard the Kamodo is just as good. so if you are leanings towards that I would go with that.
But being BGE is a Local company I went with them.
Plus Ace had a huge fathers day sale on them last year when I got mine.

Bought a BGE a little over 20 years ago and that was that. Use it almost every week and it just gets better.

My brother in law has several rec tecs in his outdoor kitchen. They are great he uses them in competition as well.

BGE is out of Atlanta
Kamando Joe is out of Duluth
And Rec Tec is out of Evans
So if anything the state of GA can build some quality grills

I did not know that. I thought BGE was in Duluth.
Learn something new every day.
You are correct. Georgia knows how to make grills.

Thanks for input everyone. Think I’ll pull the trigger on a Kamado soon. Now just have to decide classic or XL

Your best bargain to land a BGE is to catch one of the nearby EggFests and buy one of the demo Eggs that they let the exhibitors use for the day. It's been babied for the day, you don't have to worry about anyone pulling stupid shite like using lighter fluid in it, and it still has the factory warranty.
Mrs. Vox and I used to volunteer at the BGE Culinary Academy at the BGE mothership, at Spaghetti Junction, a few years ago to be able to work with the celebrity chefs that they brought in to headline the classes.

I’ll be reading this. I’ve got a green egg, had it for 6 years and love it. I’m wanting to try a pellet smoker like a traeger, not as a replacement for the egg but as an alternative bc it’s easier and I have pretty much mastered BBQ on the egg by turning out several perfect briskets among other things. I started cooking Bbq in a 55 gallon barrel and have nothing left to prove. Time to be lazy .

Best deal right now is a Pitboss at WalMart.

I love my Traeger grill. Bought it last year and haven’t used my green egg at all.

You will regret getting the Kamatoe Joe. And here's why:
-if you were honest with yourself, you'd admit that you'd rather have the original Egg over it's copy-cat knock-off imitation. So, right off the bat, you aren't following your gut and have abandoned your principles which is basically the exact recipe for regret
-And how muych would you be saving anyway? What's a couple hundred bucks over the course of the rest of your life (which is how long the egg will last with very minimal care aka keeping it covered)
-it literally equals out to a tenth of a fractions of a fraction of a penny fraction per day you'd save .
-Woo Hoo! Don't spend your daily microscopic penny shard all in one place, cheapskate.

Hey, that same concept worked in Superman III

This is good advice. EggFest demo models are a great way to get in cheaper if you aren't in a rush.

And the movie office space....
I agree go with the Egg if you can. Find a fathers sale gift price and go to an Ace Hardware and see if they will match it. Cant hurt to ask.
Also get the XL. That is what i Have with the Egg. More space the better.

Check out the new customizable modular nests for The Egg. Would be pretty fancy for a screened in porch. Maybe an L-shape to fit it in corner.
I want one.
Also, komoto joes are like PT cruisers.
