Georgia has hired Jules Montinar as a defensive quality control assistant, a source close to the situation tells 247Sports.
Montinar, who coached cornerbacks the last three seasons at Texas State, worked under Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart as a graduate assistant in 2012 and 2013 while at Alabama.
Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann also served as a GA on that staff. The Crimson Tide won a SEC and national championship in 2012, beating Notre Dame 42-14 in the national title game. Alabama's 2012 defense posted four shutouts and held six opponents to 10 points or less, ranking first nationally in yards allowed per game.
Texas State named Montinar its special teams coordinator this past season, resulting in significant strides in the kicking game. The Bobcats’ kick return defense jumped from 108th to 14th, their kick return offense from leapt from 125th to 52nd and their punt return average went from 68th to 32nd.
Montinar established himself as an elite recruiter while at Texas State, earning the 247Sports 2017 Sun Belt Recruiter of the Year. His ties in Texas and Florida, where he’s spent considerable time recruiting, could benefit the Bulldogs on the trail.
Montinar’s previous stops include James Madison, Purdue and Eastern Kentucky, his alma mater.
When at James Madison in 2014-15, Montinar’s corners broke up 59 passes, earned 14 interceptions, returning six of them for touchdowns, and forced eight fumbles. The Duke corners in 2014 led the FCS with four pick sixes.
seems to be a good recruiter.
Edit: edited title. He was at Bama. Was at Texas State coaching DBs. Important to note he is NOT going to be the DB coach at UGA. SO... Raymond....
