Who starts the season next year? I'm guessing Fromm did more than enough to secure that spot, but how short will the leash be with Fields waiting in the wings?

Fromm until Fields proves himself. He will get snaps each game I'd imagine.

Not going to try and redshirt him?

Fromm just led us to the National Championship game and we were very close to winning. Maybe pump the brakes a little on the Fromm versus Fields.

I'd assume Fromm. He's probably already progressed to a RS sophomore or even a junior level by this point and having the off-season to improve will do wonders for him, too, given his work ethic and preparation.

Fields will either get a red shirt, or more likely, designed packages to get him reps next season.

Unless Fields is just lights-out in practice, Fromm will be the starter unless he is injured or performs poorly in multiple games next season.

What's the depth chart going to look like at QB next year?

Fromm, Fields, Stetson Bennett?, ?

I'd redshirt Fields but be ready to break it if something happens to Jake.

And Fromm is the definite starter.

This is my hope to create some separation... essentially there would be *the* depth chart, and then the "depth chart"...

If Fromm is out for a play because his helmet came off, or misses a series, hopefully Bennet is inserted. If Fromm is going to miss significant time for any reason then I think we all want to see what Fields can do (assuming he has good spring/summer camps). Ultimately, will trust the staff to get it right either way.

Why redshirt Fields?

If he is a 3 year guy>NFL, he's leaving after 3 years anyway, whether we red shirt or not...

We saw this season that it's wise to have at least 2 quality QBs on the depth chart. If Fromm gets hurt, i'd rather not have to rely on a scout team QB

You can burn the redshirt if Jake gets hurt......

You have to give Fields a long look. Fromm is a hell of a player, but we have a transcendent talent coming to Athens. It would be foolish to say Fromm is the starter and not open up the competition. I think Fields will give us the best shot to win a National Title

Fromm starts but Fields play similar to the Green - Shockley usage from years ago.

I’m far from a football minded expert but wouldn’t you give the RS to fields, then start working him into the game the next season when Fromm is a junior?

It he's as good as everyone says he is he'll leave early and that year of eligibility means nothing.

I’m going to wait until I see Fields play some meaningful downs of Division 1 football before I jump to that conclusion.

Fromm proved his worth this season, especially in the CFP. He looked like a young Drew Brees, imo...very few misses, got the ball out quickly, understands coverages, and proved to be an effective field general. He showed so much this season that I really think we're going to see a pretty damn dynamic offense come next season.

There shouldn't even be a conversation about who gets the nod. I don't even know what Fields could come in and show to even make Kirby have to think about making a switch.

Agreed. Fields will be used on specialty packages where he'll more than likely keep the ball and run or go out wide for trick plays like that pass to Mayfield against OU. Unless Fromm completely implodes this offseason or goes down with an injury, Fields shouldn't expect to beat him out for the starting role any time soon.

I hated that then. Richt did that to keep DJ around. Just being real. Not a fan of platooning QB's.

I understand. But you could look at it as a wildcat with a threat to pass.
