Just a thought... JP's defense's have taken dramatic steps/changes the following year. I think there's a possibity... What are the ?'s D-Line? There's a lot of talent.

Yes....No...

Stupid fricking question.

If other teams play blow hole offenses and beat us rankings....

Like Tech and Navy have the top rushing offenses every year, don't mean shite...

Clemson was #1 last year... They got their fudge packed by UGA in the 1st game of the season... They pretty much shut GT down...

Edit: It means a helleva lot if you're not as dependent on offensive production... So yeah... it kinda means "shite"

I think it will be next year before we see that.

Without a doubt we can. Everything is going to be made easier for our secondary due to us having undoubtedly the best group of pass rushers in the country.

Pruitt was hamstrung last season with a new scheme and having to play scrubs in the D backfield. He's got more play makers this season with a year under his belt. I expect we'll see a great improvement in consistency, and possibly a top 10 D. Our ball-control ground game on O should keep 'em pretty fresh.

No.

Last year we sucked on third downs. We sucked against the run. And we sucked in the red zone. Those kinds of things don't get that much better overnight. Plus we will most likely regress towards the mean in regards to turnovers.

No, I'll be happy just to see more improvement and a front that doesn't get it's arse kicked against the run

11th would be ok with me. As long as Schott holds up his end and doesn't let the offense digress.

If we run the ball and control the clock (which I think we won't have much choice but to do) it'll sure help.

Why not? There's some experience and a little depth. The players are very talented being "coached up" to their highest potential. Argubally the best pass rushers in all of college football. A secondary that returns all its' key components, added talent, and a better understanding, a more advancement in the system.... It "could" be top 10. Will it? Games will determine.

I just don't think our personnel on the interior DL is that good yet. Thompson is obviously super-talented, but if we're counting on a true freshman to be the man on the inside then we might want to temper expectations.

I feel good about the linebackers and secondary, but our DL doesn't project to be elite. That's the hardest part of having an elite defense. You have to own the LOS.

I think so. There's no reason to think we can't be better on D this year than last. Last year's rankings:

pass defense: 5th
rush defense: 61
total defense: 17

The difference in our 17th place total D YPG last year and 10th place was 14. Hell that's one mid-range pass play each game that made the difference.

When you factor in year 2 of pruitt's D, the previous players beign more comfortable in their roles, and the influx of young talent, I'd say it's definitely doable.

I think a top 10 D is possible. Although a top 20 defense could still lead us to a very good season.

If we get decent QB play and have a top 20 defense (both aren't guarantees, but are realistic) I think we will go 10-2 in the regular season, 9-3 at worst.
