The non toxic stuff does not compare to the Old Faithful Hoppes period.

as far as your two young kids. Even the non toxic stuff isnt something you want them messing around with. Just take safety in mind and keep the stuff locked up and dont clean them around your kids. and use the good stuff not the tree hugging hippie crap.

Good number of people have swapped over from Hoppe's to FrogLube.

Here's one example who happens to have a good Youtube video on the subject.

That's true. But anyone with two little ones (and now with a wife having to wear a boot on her foot for a stress fracture) knows how difficult it can be to get enough time completely away to deal with firearm cleaning, among other things. Constantly having to wash your hands to go back-and-forth is a tough balance.

BTW, you can EAT FrogLube. I wouldn't, but you can.

Clean the gun with what ever you trust your life with. Hoppes seems to work for me. I have a buddy that uses Froglube but I prefer stuff that's been around for at least a few decades.

Here's a link...

I hear ya. But that's a lot like thinking that Coke still uses the exact same formula that they did in 1916. They don't. Or like saying because Ford has been around since about the same time, they make better cars than Ferrari. Newer does not mean worse or even untested. Technological advancements are not "the Devil".

In researching this a bit, I came across this test where Hoppe's actually was among the worst performers. Not a be-all, end-all test, but worth some thought.

While you are cleaning the gun, don't point it at you wife, girlfriend, fiancee' etc.

My wife hosted a wedding shower for a beautiful blonde woman years ago.

3 months later she was dead, accidentally killed by her husband when he was cleaning his rifle.

Of course, that goes without saying. Husband should have never been touching the rifle until after safety checking it, much less cleaning it. Sad though.

Got back from the range, and eh on the Froglube. I was expecting the thing to shine a little more after use. It did wipe clean though. Maybe after more usage it will show more.

Sic em, if I were you I'd just give it a shot. It smells like wintergreen dip. I won't vouche for it, but I think it's worth a shot. They have liquid, paster, and wipes. I tried the wipes.

Uhhhh ya...? I think we all understand that...why would you point your firearm at anything you aren't planning to destroy?

Anyways, Im inclined to think that some of these "shot while cleaning the gun" is bullshite. If you clean your guns you realize how hard it is to "accidentally" kill someone. Ammo doesn't magically jump into the chamber while you're wiping it down.

From what I have found on it thus far, it looks like there is a more meticulous first (and second/third) application instruction involving the use of a hairdryer or heat gun and the paste. If you only used the wipes, perhaps that's the issue. Apparently, once you've put it through the "grinder" two to three times, all you have to do beyond that is wipe it down and lightly lube (liquid?) the critical friction areas.

I'm going to do an initial app before I ever fire the gun and then the next two I'll do the full app process in between firings. I'm gonna give it a shot.

There is... I applied FL, grabbed the GF's hairdryer, and let cooled. While I used just wipes, there seems to be plenty of product on them.

This is what I've read as well. We'll see how she does after the next few visits. I only put 50 rds after my first trip to the range after application of FL, really because the range I wen't to(Firing Line/Marietta), will only sell two boxes if you use the range. I wen't through one box, and kept the other.

I'll also hold back on any more recs towards the product, because I've got my own issues with my XD40(which has +/- 500 rds through it). I have a feeding problem. Not sure if it's the mag, or the pistol(fingers crossed that it's the mag), but half-way through my 12rd mag it doesnt feed until I rack it again. Stumped. Happened once, fluke. Happened twice, oh well, big fluke. Happpened third time, sometings up.

Let me know how the FL works, as well as the XDs. I loved mine until the feeding issues, I still do just wanna know what's up.

I'll keep you posted. May be a couple of weeks before I actually get to do anything with it since my son's tee ball practices start up this weekend.

That said, if you can't figure out the feeding problem, send it back to Springfield. If you're the original owner, you're covered for life. Is there any way that you might be able to get a hold of another mag to try out? I believe the range here in Athens has XD40s available to shoot and would thus have a mag or two to try. It sounds like you definitely have something going on, but my guess is that if it's happening about the same place in the mag each time, it's the mag.

Check out this guy's video. You can do it the way you did, but it might be easier to heat the slide, etc. first, and then apply the FL, wipe down, etc. Course, with the wipes, I'm not really sure.

Sic em, I just wanted to show you my XDm since you seem to be interested in them. My friend does sights, decals and Dura Coat. If you like and are interested, let me know and I will get you the info.

Very nice! Is the XDm lettering on the grip done in ceracoat? Nice firearm!

I'm looking to go with a Smith & Wesson 627 snubby on the next run or....maybe a FN Five-SeveN if I happen to have the dough.

Lettering is actually done with decals. My buddy makes them. He has an ad on ebay and you can order them. You can pic different color schemes and such. Just search for XDm Grip Decals and you will find them. They just stick on but it makes for a very clean look. The engravings are actually done with nail polish believe it or not. Just pick a color, paint over the engraving you want, let dry, and wipe the excess with NON-acetone remover. Acetone will damage your finish BAD. The sights are Tru-Glow TFO's and he installs them and ships back in a day. Cheapest sight prices you can find. About $100 for everything.

Dont get a revolver, unless that's your thing. The FN is a good firearm. If you don't have a 1911, that's exactly what you need. Once you fire one you will never go back.

Actually, my first gun was (and still is) a Colt .38 Special snubby in blued finish. I'm actually very partial to wheelguns. Just curious, but why do you not care for them? I just love how reliable and easy-to-maintain they are. Wish I could afford an old Colt Python. Masterpiece of a firearm.

Love this particular gun; however, the ammo is ridiculously expensive (and very hard to find). Plus, it's more an offensive weapon than a defensive one. The ballistics of the 5.7x28mm round are crazy though.

I plan to own one, I promise. Gonna be very picky. Wish I had the $$$ for a Wilson Combat 1911. What manufacturer would you suggest? I guess one of my higher thought-of brands would be Sig. Kimber....maybe.

You can't go wrong with a Wilson or a Kimber. One of my personal favorites is an Ed Brown. I have shot a few of them and I was blown away.
