Thank god he got to Barrow county before getting stopped. If this happens in Athens, you know damn well nothing gets dropped.

Being arrested over a leaf of marijuana smaller than a penny is asinine. I do not support drug use at all but that’s pathetic. It’s time for Ga to move out of the 60’s with this nonsense.

Won't happen until the old guard in the state legislature start retiring or dying. I've spent some time dealing with some of them, there are moments it feels like being in a time warp.

Per Rusty Mansell at 247, Patrick passed his drug test after the incident.

Nice! I'm glad Kirby had his back and waited for all the details first!

Richt would've kicked him off without any explanation probably

That's pretty impressive given his background. The fact that he'd been in a car with a guy who sparked up and NOT do the same thing says a lot of taken at face value.

Exactly this. I had lunch with a state legislator about 2-3 years ago when the buy-beer-directly-from-your-brewer laws were being discussed (at that time you had to take a tour of a brewery and get "samples" and you couldnt buy beer directly from them). He was adamantly opposed to changing the law citing "its better and safer for the people of Georgia because in prohibition people went blind from drinking bad booze" and the middle man beer distributors were only in business to protect the people from going blind. He didn't bring up how much the beer distributor lobby gave to his campaign but it was not an insignificant amount... imagine that.

JFC... if we're still operating on the idea of distributors are necessary to prevent people from drinking bathtub quality gin...

It's about damned time. I hope he keeps his act together, for all of our sakes.

I guess... For anyone that didn't see... this is what he was arrested for:

That's effing insane to begin with that it's sufficient to arrest someone for. I'm pretty confident I've picked up a contact high from an Uber that had more pot crumbs in the seats...

What’s also pathetic is how some on this forum called Patrick a dumba$$ and said he should be kicked off the team immediately. I’m glad that Kirby waited on a little Due Process before acting prematurely.
While he should have not put himself in that situation, I sure would hate for a young man to have his life impacted negatively over something this trivial.

The stupidity of the law aside, how big of a dork is the arresting officer?
