-All 3 Natl Champs in playoff era have had 1 loss

-there are currently 11 total losses in the Top 10

-only one of them belongs to Georgia

-this was the absolute best possible dream scenario if there was going to be a Georgia loss

-It takes 57 face muscles to frown and only 4 to smile, just kidding. sorry. couldn't resist

-But, seriously a loss can be good for a team.

-who knows?

-maybe, we even end up looking back on this learning experience

-as a blessing in disguise one day.

We can still get to the playoffs, which is something I wasn't betting on to start the season, so that's a good thing. It's a shame we lost in the way we did, though. We'll have to win out in convincing fashion to make sure the playoff committee sees that game as an anomaly rather than indicative of the team we have.

Think of this Miami team:
-Getting their wins on last minute facemelter plays
-and clinging to an undefeated record by the skin of their teeth.
-They knew their luck would eventually run out
-and so they knew they had to work hard and evolve if they were going to be able to survive
-and it's paid off and now they look like world beaters

Now think of this Georgia team:
-not faced with similar adversity
-not getting punched in the mouth
-not having adapt and adjust in order to win
-getting florida coaches fired just by showing up
-clinching ATL spot so early
-being told they're #1 in the land

Conclusion:
-The more I think about it
-and hindsights 20/20
-but we have a better shot at winning this SEC Championship now
-and making noise in the playoffs
-than we ever would have had if we'd scraped out a win somehow over Auburn.

-Georgia needed this.

I am sorry guys call me pessimistic but we do not stand a chance in hell of winning a national championship this year so lets just drop that now and stop living a lie.

That was a great run, and something I have never witnessed a UGA team do in my lifetime. But natty champs do not get their s*** pushed in like that.

Could we make it there? Maybe.

I just don't believe We are that bad and Auburn is that good. Too many obvious mistakes that should have made it a game. Jumping on a punt...15 yard unsportsmanlike though

I think you forget what we've done this year. I think the level of play we've had for 9 games prior to this one speaks louder as to who we are than this one game.

Chaney called a terrible game and we had just about everything go against us, including uncharacteristic penalties (for this years' team, at least) that gave Auburn momentum to ride.

Yeah, we got whipped all around, but I see this as a reality check for our team which I think will inspire them to move on. The pressure is off now and we can focus on improving. If we crush Kentucky and beat Tech soundly, we have an opportunity to be facing the a top 4 team in the SECCG and a win almost guarantees a playoff spot.

Come on now ... you don’t know that. If we come out and blow away Kentucky and Ga Tech, I think this team has another shot at elevating themselves to the NC level with a win in Atl. To say we don’t have a shot is just not true. We are capable of beating any team in the nation with the talent we have on the field.

I agree. My thinking, though, is that national champion winners NEVER have this type of loss on their resume. Maybe 10 point loss at most. Usually one-score/OT losses are what you see. Not complete domination.

I just think were 1 more year away from being true NC contenders. We're close this year, but we got exposed Saturday and so did ND. Could the dawgs win the SECCG and make a run in the playoffs? Sure.

I am just saying I really don't see that happening as much as I want it to. I think we really did have a terribly easy schedule with wins (albeit, complete wins) over shitty tennessee and florida teams. Close win against ND who was also exposed, and an OK Miss State team that is starting to look like our only quality win.

Let's try a thought experiment.....

Which of following losses should cause a fanbase to panic the most?

A) loss to fricking Syracuse, VT
B) loss to Iowa State with a walk-on QB in his first start
C) a loss to Auburn

There have been at least 2 since our last national championship...

I wonder how many of those one loss champions lost those games by 3 touchdowns.

You're not a DGD at all......

Total agreement Jeff. We still have everything in front of us at this moment. The fact that Kirby has us playing in the SEC title game year two and the fact that we have crushed everyone so far with the exceptions being the ND game and the AUB game I'm chalking the season up as a success. UGA's trajectory is heading up. Excited about the rest of the season and the seasons to come.

Also, OSU to VT by 14 at home in 2014. Clemson lost at home to Pitt last year. Alabama lost at home to A&M in 2012.

shite, we got mutilated by USCe in 2012 and were very much in the hunt at the end.

I don’t mean to take away but....

I posted this on sewer rant and was told there have only been 3 playoff nc’s so far, and 2007 LSU had 2 losses and won nc.

So then all 3 Natl Champs of playoff era have had a loss.

100%

That sounds even better.

I am not saying this season is a failure. I am just commenting on national champion talk that is the purpose of this thread. Obviously this season is a huge leg up from last.
