Two things can be true at the same time. Kirby is an elite talent evaluator, which is one more reason why I wouldn't trade him for any coach in the country. And this is also true…

I agree for any coach not named Kirby. He’s the exception.

I don't follow recruiting, haven't in a long time. But I do understand we usually end up near the top somewhere. 2hat schools are paying the most? Notre Dame? Texas Tech? Texas?

One of the position coaches goes to church with me. He was talking about his weekend's recruiting visits and how greedy these HS kids are. Said he lost his temper on someone but didn't say who it was. The implication was HS recruiting is going to take a back seat to the portal once Kirby's current team moves on.

Does it? So sorry. Your reply leads everyone else who agrees with me to believe that I hurt the feelings of a sucker who donates money to mercenary teens and gets nothing in return except shite talking to rival fans rights and commemorative merchandise (that you also pay for.)

Nah, I don’t think I will. You’re worrying about things you shouldn’t worry about. We’ve taken more diamonds in the rough and turned them into draft picks.

I’m not sure Kirby himself would tout his history as a case of “doing more with less.” No one has spent more time and resources chasing and signing 5*s than he has with the exception of Nick Saban.

Yet the zero to no star guys have done amazing, Baker, Davis, McConkey, Bennett etc....

I’m not saying they necessarily less talented but more like hidden talent. They just haven’t been identified by the recruiting services

I don’t find this possibility nearly as likely in the internet era.

There are a bunch of others who did not do amazing.

Acting like Kirby’s UGA was built on under the radar players is revisionist history.

Ok, cool. Except they’ve been doing it the entire time Kirby has been the head coach

Not for the bulk of a recruiting class. 3-5 guys a year, sure.

Who’s talking about the bulk. I’m talking about our higher percentage of success on lower ranked players when the other guy was complaining about our 3 star recruits

Kirby has one of, if not the highest success rate with 3 stars and lower.

You're arguing just to argue. No one has made this point.

I’m just replying to pieces of the conversation that I don’t agree with. I suppose my overall opinion is that I agree that Kirby has had great success evaluating lower rated players but have my doubts that relying on finding diamonds in the rough is likely to result in maintaining results anything like the last decade.

That’s not even a criticism of Kirby. It takes money to chase the players we used to get, and I’m not contributing so don’t really have any standing to say we should be doing better.

The good guys offered a second player from Effingham County High School. I go to all the games because my daughter is in the marching band. That other, the receiver, is legit.

Wonder if this means anything one way or the other about whether or not Jaylen Wade will reclassify.
