Per my link, UGA has Tyler Clark, JLed, and Malik Herring.

I'm not sure if you are being purposely obtuse, or just not reading my posts yet insisting on responding to them?

I already pointed out that they were not drafted. believe it or not, it means something to kids to be drafted into the NFL and not make it as a UDA.

quote:

It is semantics. UGA hasnt had anyone drafted (Maliks injury prevented that). But UGA is putting DL in the league.

Yes, an no. Would you want to be drafted, or be a UDA? Drafted players actually get more money.
For instance, Nazair Jones was drafted in the 3rd round. Who do you think got the better contract? Malik Herring or Nazaier Jones?

quote:

I got onto the Sports Illustrated guys who claimed that no Dawg has been drafted since David Pollack on a podcast. We dont need to be spreading misinformation that doesnt help recruiting.

Point out the misinformation from me.

John Jenkins is the last DLineman that was drafted into the NFL and that was 2013. Point out the misinformation.

We should correct that in the coming draft. If he stays healthy I would think Davis is a top 1st or 2nd round pick.

The only misinformation I have seen in this thread came from you.

I spotted you yesterday. I think Meansony is different, but it is close enough that I spotted him. He seems to bring pretty good information there.

Had to look it up. Meansonny is Always Sony, I think?(Or am I getting him confused?)

It's a good board, and the posters all seem very knowledgeable. One or two are a little wonky and don't seem happy about anything, but for the number of people that is pretty incredible.

I remember seeing you there, too.

Great news about Jacob Hood. Raw and will need some time, but we are so deep at Oline right now we can take a project or two in this class.

FWIW, there is an argument to be made for being a UDA over being drafted late 6th or in the 7th round. Shorter contract and sometimes because multiple teams might be after you, you make more money as well. It gives you flexibility in picking your destination (ie. is it a roster that I have a chance of making or will I be lost in the depth chart behind entrenched starters who are not moving soon).

Yes, in general, drafted > undrafted, but you know what's better? Actually making a team roster.

Tray Scott is about to cash in on the development work he's done on what had previously been a pretty subpar UGA DL, both talent wise and developmentally.

I don't think it was intentional, but this was your quote:
quote:

LITERALLY at the top of the page I said this:Look at it another way. Since 2016 North Carolina has put 2 defensive linemen in the NFL. Georgia is yet to put one

Whether that's what you meant to type or not, it's inaccurate. "In the NFL" =/= "Drafted to the NFL"

It's a reasonable point of distinction.

I think everyone just needs a football game to kick-off round about 7:30pm this Saturday... starting to eat our own everywhere it would seem.

Yeah. I get that, but it is still every kids dream of being drafted into the NFL. Plus Jones signed a 4 year 3.17 Million contract. UDFA typically gets very little money...TYPICALLY. (See below) In a sport that has an average lifespan of something like 3 years I will take the 4 year deal every time. If you get hurt in your first year as an UDFA you are done for about $200,000.

Initial salaries for undrafted free agents can range from a few thousand dollars to more than $100,000.

Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reported that tight end Andrew Beck was the highest-paid undrafted Patriots player in 2019 with a $115,000 salary, a higher number than the majority of UDFAs. Cornerback D’Angelo Ross was the lowest-paid Patriots undrafted free agent with a $17,500 salary.

LINK

Personally? I'm not taking a chance for $17,000....or even $50,000.

That's a fair point.
In my defense in made it pretty clear I was talking about being drafted, though. I can see where Meansonny would misunderstand what I was saying, though.

I know I do.

And for the record I have nothing against meansonny at all...I just disagree on his point. There is a definite difference about what kids want. They would rather, imo, be drafted than not be drafted.

I can't wait for Saturday, though. It's funny. Before Georgia plays a big game I start getting butterflies in my stomach much the same way I did when I played. And I never played on the same scale as Georgia does.

Like I said...I think our current coaches are doing a great job signing and developing DLinemen. I was one that defended Tray Scott when some on here wanted to get rid of him.

I also think the flood gates are about to open with Dlinemen getting drafted from us, and they will go early in the draft.

I did not mean to insinuate that we were not doing a good job or could not currently develop DLinemen.
