Pitching
Starters
Friday: RHP Jonathan Cannon (Jr) - Slow start last year while recovering from Mono but began to look live up to his preseason billing down the stretch

Saturday, Sunday, and Midweek:
Open competition between '
- LHP Jaden Woods (So) - Made 4 starts in 17 appearances last season, landing 2nd team Freshman All America honors. He's going to be a starter for us, just not sure if Saturday or Sunday.

- RHP Dylan Ross (Jr) - Cousin of teammate Will Childers, transferred in from Eastern Kentucky by way of Northwest Florida St College. Ranked in top three rounds (#114/500) by Baseball America for the 2021 Draft before making his way to Athens

- RHP Garrett Brown (RSo) - 2021 projected starter before needing Tommy John surgery in Fall 2020. Started four games in his RFr year

- LHP Davis Rokose (RSo) - Transfer in from Miss State where he made four relief appearances

- LHP Liam Sullivan (So) - Made 4 starts in 16 appearances last season, going 1-2 with a 3.99 ERA. Stood tall at Arkansas, in particular. Solid option for Midweek if not Sunday.

- LHP/OF Luke Wagner (So) - Made 12 starts in 17 appearances last year, going 3-3 with a 4.58 ERA. Another good midweek option or an early inning saftey valve if another starter doesn't have it

- RHP Hank Bearden (So) - Made 3 starts in 14 appearances last year, going 3-2 with a 3.91 ERA

- Coleman Willis (Fr) - Baseball America High school Third team All American. 6'7, also played basketball at Houston Co HS

- Jake Poindexter (Fr) - Cousin of Tucker Bradley, named All-State

Bullpen
- RHP Nolan Crisp (Jr) - Figures to be our closer this year, assuming he has worked out the kinks from last season.

- RHP Will Childers (RSo) - Another closer candidate, Childers figured to be a starter last year before Tommy John Surgery. Still recovering and will likely miss some if not most of the non-con slate but should be back and active once we start the SEC slate in late March.

- RHP Michael Polk (Jr) - Had 17 relief appearances, going 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA. Figures to be a solid 7th/8th inning set up guy.

- RHP Jack Gowen (Sr) - Been around for what feels like forever. Has some really good outings and some really frustrating outings. Went 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA last year. Hopefully this is the year he finds consistency because when he's on, he's a good SEC reliever.

- RHP Will Pearson (So) - Had 19 relief appearances, going 2-0 with a 3.91 ERA last season.

- LHP Charlie Goldstein (RSo) - Had 6 starts and 11 relief appearances last year as a Redshirt Freshman. Mostly played bullpen games so not a lot of starter-level work but has experience pitching against SEC bats.

- LHP Collin Caldwell (So) - Had 22 relief appearances last season, going )-1 with a 4.58 ERA. Inherited team-high 30 runners, retiring 25.

Infield
Catcher: Fernando Gonzalez (So) - Set a school record for catchers with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 330 total chances. Batted .254 with 6 doubles, 2 home runs (including a Grand Slam against Auburn) and 13 RBI overall
- Corey Collins (So)
- Shane Marshall (Sr)

First: Chaney Rogers (Grad): Career hitting .274 with 19 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 48 RBI. Has started at 4 different positions over his lengthy UGA career.
- Parks Harber (So)

Second: Cory Acton (Sr) - Started 19 games at 2B for Florida last seaosn, batting .250 with a pair of doubles, 10 RBI, 18 walks and three stolen bases
- Buddy Floyd (Jr)

Shortstop: Cole Tate (Grad) - Has appeared in 123 games with 71 starts, batting .305 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs and 42 RBI over his career.
- Josh Stinson (RSo)

Third: Josh McCallister (RSr) - Came out of seemingly nowhere last season, starting 38 games (most at 2B) while batting .333 with six doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs and 29 RBI
- Garrett Blaylock (Sr)
- Parks Harber (So)

Outfield
Left: Connor Tate (Grad) - Has appeared in 104 games with 70 starts, batting .313 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 14 home runs and 57 RBI over his career
- Randon Jernigan (Sr)
- Dwight Allen (RFr)

Center: Ben Anderson (Grad) - Currently batting a career .253 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs and 30 RBI in 73 games including 69 starts
- Randon Jernigan (Sr)

Right: Garrett Blaylock (Sr) - Career batting .225 with 22 XBH including 13 home runs and 37 RBI in 61 games including 54 starts

Obligatory Fire Stricklin post

Excited to see the team this year. We return a lot. If we get a couple of young bats and one arm to replace Webb, could be a good season. SEC is stacked, so we will certainly have an opportunity to prove ourselves.

Too early prediction….we get a 2 seed in regionals and advance to Supers

I haven't followed baseball a lick since the last season. Are we gonna be good this year? After our top 3 team got their season ended in spring 2020 with covid it kinda took the wind out of my sails. I've always been anti-stricklin and think we need to move on but I'm assuming that won't happen if we are somewhat above average again.

We are going to be really good this year.

I agree with IT, should make it to a Super this year though I think we host a regional in Athens as a 9-16 seed (travel to a higher seed for Supers).

Pitching is as deep as I’ve ever seen it and we have at least 5 legitimate starters in Woods, Sullivan, Cannon, Childers, and Brown plus a lot of talent and experience in the bullpen (injuries kind of forced that issue last year).

We return virtually the entire lineup from last year which makes the bench very deep as well. DH/C Corey Collins might be our best bat but the Tate twins (LF & SS), 3B Blaylock, 2B McCallister, and C Gonzalez all had really solid if not good years last year. Then you have Parks Harber and Shane Marshall on the bench. Chaney Rogers is back at 1B and might be our best defensive first baseman of all time. Need CF Ben Anderson to return to his 2020 production at the plate. Curious how we will plug in INF Cory Acton who transferred from Florida.

If we again fail to make it out of the regionals do you think it's time to get rid of css?

If we fail to make it out, I think the seat gets warm but Josh isn’t going to jettison him if he makes the postseason. Especially if we get word about a Foley Field expansion this Summer, I think that signals Stricklin is locked in for another 2-3 years.

All in all, I have a hard time blaming Stricklin for any postseason or recruiting woes when he is competing with an arm tied behind his back facility-wise. Georgia as a state is poached by virtually the entire conference and a large reason is the investment in UGA Baseball facilities has lagged way behind the rest of the conference. Address that issue and STILL fail to make it to Omaha and then I’ll be ready to move on

I honestly have backed off of stricklin the past two seasons I mean he’s made the post season twice pitching hasn’t been the best and our bats are cold at times . You said this should be the best pen we’ve had in a while?

Last year was an outlier given injuries; Team just never found a rhythm and we played virtually our entire recruiting class in meaningful games and roles. Should see that pay off this year across the board. Bullpen should be great simply based on number of options we have to go to. Yet to be seen if Crisp finally lives up to his billing as Closer and big shoes to fill with Harris gone. But there are a lot of new guys and returning names who should let us play matchups in late innings

I didn’t want to go full Homer I certainly think we have a chance, but the SEC is just so stacked this year and that might push us down. Plus, not sure the committee going to let 8 SEC teams host

Either way, I will be disappointed if we are not competing for a chance to host…barring injuries like last year.

COVID exemption did help with our depth and pretty sure King is the only real missing piece from last years team (field/bats).

We also lost Webb and Harris though I think the production of both can be replicated.

Curious who we stick out in RF with King moved on. Lot of suitors

Curious how some of the sophmores are doing? I think they saw some playing time last year. Bearden, and Spikes. Freshman pitcher Radtke?

Hoping Spikes takes a step forward. He looked lost last year when pressed into action.

Bearden should be one of those bullpen guys along with Radtke. High upside, I trust Kenny to develop them.

Entirely possible that both Ross and his cousin, Will Childers, will be weekend starters. Cannon, Woods, and Sullivan will be tough to beat out. Garrett Brown, too.

If you believe in height in your pitchers, too, Ross is 6’5, Childers is 6’4, and Brown is 6’7. Both Cannon and Sully are 6’6. Pitching staff must be hell in Ramsey basketball

off topic question...anyone with experience going to Hoover for the SEC tournament? My son has played in that venue in hs for PG tournaments. Do you buy individual game tickets or is it bought for all the games? Early rounds games are good or not worth it?

You buy per session (morning - night in early rounds), not individual games. You can also buy a pass for every session. I think it’s like $20 a session or $100 for the full thing. Not 100% on pricing now
