Then why recruit him in the first place?

better shot with Trevor Lawrence?
According to his HS coach, we never had a shot... Supposedly didn't recover from a bad recruiting experience under Richt when Lawrence was a Freshman or Sophomore in HS? Something along those lines.
Also, Fields didn't commit to us until after Lawrence was already committed to Clemson...

But all of those same people want D'Eriq King, who is just a smaller version of Fields.
I get King is a great talent, but unless we want a guy who won't be able to see over his lineman and just run around the field for a season because he can't get through progressions, then sign him up.
If I hear this one more time I'm going to throw up. King and Fields can get through progressions just fine as well as throw into tight windows, take care of the ball, and make good decisions. 64% comp with 50 total TDs and 6 int is amazing.
I'd rather have Fromm stay, but if he goes King is the #1 target in this class; and if he comes UGA is maybe the best team in the country with the #1 D, great O-Line, All-American caliber QB, and an experienced receiving corps.

We never had a shot. His family friend was taking him to Clemson games when he was in middle school.

Also our #1 2021 prospect will probably feel lot more comfortable signing with UGA if he sees a guy like King having success.

I totally get it. And most of us wonder why we went all-in after him if we weren't willing to accommodate his skills. I don't think you can blame anyone for that.
Not at all. My personal opinion, is we were going to change the scheme to fit his skills after Fromm left. Fromm took us to the NC, so he was going to keep the job. And it would be crazy to change the scheme with Fromm at QB
My only other theory is that we went after him because you go after the #1 recruit at that position. That and to keep him out of Florida and Auburn's hands, not to mention Alabama.
quote:And again...because the intent was to change once Fields was the QB. To me it seems obvious. I'm surprised it doesn't to some others.
So again, why even pursue him as we did? That's what people have an issue with. If you don't think that we're being negatively recruited against based on how all of that played out, you're kidding yourself. It may be a while before another dual-threat guy actually signs with us.
Any way we slice it, Fields is gone and he simply did not fit with Georgia's scheme at the time. maybe not ever, who knows? I can't read Kirby's mind, but it is silly for people to act as if we did the dumbest thing imaginable. Looking back on it, I wish we had never gotten him. If he wins a Title the melt on here is going to go through the roof.
That is my take. I do agree if we want to compare thoughts on this we should make another thread.

Not sure if it was him or it came from us...but I remember hearing that he did not consider himself a running QB. He was a passer first who was capable of running. Any way you slice it, he did not want to wait to play. I get it. That's okay.
Either way, we either trust our coaching staff or we nit pick them to death.
I am shocked at the number of people that will defend to the death and downvote any criticism of Kirby, then criticize the daylights out of him for the Fields debacle. The only way Fields was going to stay was if he got total control of the offense and was made starter.
Y'all can decide if Kirby is the right man for the job or not. I tend to trust the coach....to a fault sometimes.

Some added Jared WIlson info from his West Forsyth head coach Adrian Snow:
“This kid, for his size, has freakish ability. It is unbelievable. To be as big as he is and can move like this cat can move.”
“He can move. He can run. He’s athletic and the tip of the iceberg is only what is showing. This is his third year of playing football. He’s only played football for three years.”
“You need to watch him pull and run. Seriously. It is just like a gazelle. You’re looking at that and just loving those feet. But then you are looking at him and going ‘this kid is massive’ and man can he run. It will be like he is just tip-toeing around guys.”
“It is just like he runs on pillows. It is crazy. Soft feet, man. He ain’t no lumberer out there. I can promise you that. He can make it happen.”
“You just see things and go ‘Good gosh’ because now he’s starting to enjoy it and annihilate people. You kind of feel bad at times for the other kids he is blocking. This big joker is on them and they can’t get him off. He’s just attacking them. It’s awesome. It is awesome.”
“He’s really never played football before. He’s been a soccer player. A basketball player.”
“His feet are what sets him apart. It is unbelievable and I am not just a high school coach saying how good my kid is. You just watch him run and watch him move. It is like God has blessed him. Let’s just say that.”
“He’s got the best demeanor. He’s the best kid. Teachers love him. I don’t bet you could find anyone around here in the whole school to say anything bad about him. He’s just awesome. He really is.”
“Great kid. Great player. But he’s an offensive lineman that still plays hard all the time.”
“He’s a big kid. A big player. A big prospect. But he’s not one of those kids who thinks he is bigger than everyone else. Even though he is physically bigger than everybody else.”
“He’ll be an interior guard or center for them (in college) when he gets there. Possibly a center or a guard type.”
Wilson ranks as the nation’s No. 19 OG for 2021 on the 247Sports Composite ratings. That places him as the nation’s No. 495 overall prospect for 2021.

Do y'all really not understand that Fields was not a good fit for Georgia's offensive scheme? It wasn't a matter of talent. it was a matter of scheme that kept Fields off the field.
It pays to commit to the G even if circumstances change and you transfer.

Would you like me to get you a bucket? In what world is Houston's offense similar to the offense UGA runs?
You can't just pick up a quarterback from one system, plop him into another and think he'll automatically excel.
Jalen Hurts is the epitome of what a schematic, spread offense can do for you. He couldn't make the throws needed on a consistent basis in the SEC. Go to Oklahoma where you have a tree of the air raid offense, just like Houston, and he looks like a star. It's easy to hit receivers who have space and run wide open.

We recruiting Fields again, or something? Just wondering why we spend so much time talking about him here. Take it to the main board, imo.

Normally I’d agree with you but it’s s a dead time for this thread. Who cares right now.

Hahahaha y'all want some real insight into Jared? One my main man Coach Snow who I played for almost 10 years ago now at West is telling the truth. Good coach that runs a spread and has loads of talent that he benefits from.
Jared is huge and to be able to move the way he does is just unthinkable. You should see him dunk and play Basketball!
I talked to Jared the other day my understanding is Sam wants him as a Center. Which to me is perfect for his body. He is so quick and a very smart kid! This is a great under the radar get for us!
I've been dying the last few years watching our star players go to shite schools and die minus KJ so its nice to see a Titan pick the good guys for a change!!!

2023? I might be dead by then. Commits that far out are crazy - that would mean this kid is a freshman in high school?
