Any Joey gate wood talk?

I actually hope not. If he can't beat out Nix he must be struggling. Nix will eventually be a good player, imo, but he looks super rough right now, and Gatewood can't unseat him.

Agreed. I don't think he was unable to "beat out" Nix. Nix, like Fromm, is simply the coach's choice. Doesn't mean he's the better talent.

Okay. let me put it another way.

Burrow got beat out by a QB that played very well. Fields got beat out by a QB that plays very well.

Gatewood got beat out by a QB that isn't very good at this point in his development. Neither Fields nor Burrow would have gotten beat out if the QB in front of them was playing poorly.

You really don't see the difference. I am not saying that Gatewood won't be good. But he isn't now, and won't be by next year. He is a raw talent that needs a lot of work.

Do y'all really not understand that Fields was not a good fit for Georgia's offensive scheme? It wasn't a matter of talent. it was a matter of scheme that kept Fields off the field.

For people to continually say Fields should have started because he was the better talent is dumb. Sorry, but there is not other way to say it. We were not going to scrap our entire offense in one off season. That affects more than just the QB. It affects the OLine, the WRs, RBs....everybody on offense. We might eventually change our offense, but after 2017, the staff felt we were close to a NC. They were not going to throw everything in a box, shake it up and hope for the best for the sake of Justin Fields.

Preach

ETA: would prefer this discussion be kept out of the recruiting thread, though.

I would argue that if a dude that big, fast, and talented overall isn’t a scheme fit, then you should consider scrapping that scheme regardless. I digress.

I mean I can’t disagree. White out in Beaver Stadium is damn near impossible to beat in terms of sheer spectacle

I wasn’t at UGA ND but I’ve been to a whiteout. On average, yea, whiteout will beat sanford environment any time but based on what the ND game looked like in the video I can’t buy that.

ND environment was really cool but for sheer spectacle and environment, I think white out still wins. Just very little in major sports that competes with that environment

2021 3* OG Jared Wilson committed to the Dawgs today.

6-4, 325. Not a small human.

But all of those same people want D'Eriq King, who is just a smaller version of Fields.

I get King is a great talent, but unless we want a guy who won't be able to see over his lineman and just run around the field for a season because he can't get through progressions, then sign him up.

Kirby's biggest recruiting job will be keeping Fromm, if he see's that as his best option personally. Barring injury, in my unprofessional opinion, Fromm's stock isn't going to change from this year to next. Kirby appears like a dad to Jake so I'm sure whatever he feels is his best career move, he'll listen.

Maybe Jack Sears from USC could be a target; Justin Rogers was recruited by UGA out of high school but hasn't found much success in the transition to college; or the field. If we need someone, they'll find the right guy.

It don't look like OG's has been evaluated. The highest rate for an OG in the 2021 class is 94.

I totally get it. And most of us wonder why we went all-in after him if we weren't willing to accommodate his skills. I don't think you can blame anyone for that.

I don't think most of us think that. I don't. We're just pointing out that purely speaking on talent, Fields was always better than Fromm. Again, based solely on potential/ceiling.

So again, why even pursue him as we did? That's what people have an issue with. If you don't think that we're being negatively recruited against based on how all of that played out, you're kidding yourself. It may be a while before another dual-threat guy actually signs with us.

Then why recruit him in the first place?

I've wondered that, too. They weren't going to change the offense to fit his skill set. I wonder if Fields hadn't committed, would we have had a better shot with Trevor Lawrence?
