This is about 2020. Stockpile the talent and let the worst guy transfer.

The post I responded to said this:

I do not understand wanting a world where Beck or Bennett are our most experienced back ups or starting options in 2021

I assumed 2021 referred to 2021. But as for 2020, like I said, if they think Brice can be the best we have, go for it. If they're signing him to be a backup to Newman, unless we're expecting more attrition from the other three (Bennett, Matthis, Beck), I'd say ride it out with four in 2020.

I don't necessarily see why Beck couldn't be our best starting option in 2021 or even possibly best backup option in 2020 since he's an early enrollee. Lots of talented qb's start in their 2nd year, and Beck looks talented to me.

He could be. That’s not what DGD is saying. He’s saying providing another QB who has a little bit more experience than one year of redshirting (hopefully) or Stetson is a good thing.

If the coaches decide we need Brice, I wouldn't disagree because they have a good idea of what we have and what might transpire between now and September.

From my perspective and knowledge as a fan, our depth chart looks okay with the addition of Newman. I really like Beck and he's an early enrollee. I think Matthis is a very smart kid and if he's okayed to compete, then he'll be in his 2nd season. Plus, despite all the fears of Bennett being completely unserviceable, I think he could do a passable job because of his mobility and live arm. So, just speaking as a fan with limited knowledge, I'm fine with the depth we have.

Why not take another guy just for competition? My response would be, until the 25 limit is modified, there's a tradeoff for taking transfers vs 4 year players. Teams can and do get shorthanded because of this 25 limit and 4 year players are better for roster management than 1 or 2 year players. So until I know otherwise, I give some negative weight to transfers that needs to be offset by a good chance of contributing.

That's the ironic thing. People act like Beck doesn't exist. It's like he's not there.

Beck has the tools to be really good, IMO, but he needs to be coached up and developed. I really don’t think Coley is the guy for that. Regardless of who we have calling plays, we need a guy who can develop QB talent with our style of offense.

I would prefer a winning style of offense.

This. I want an OC who has a least a dozen winning plays ready for crucial red-zone situations and a team that has practiced said plays so completely that the execution is automatic.

2021 guys this weekend.

Got three weekends of visits on campus and in-home. First weekend in Athens will be all about '21 prospects. Several instate guys visiting that we feel really good about.

Anyone have any further insight on Malik Hornsby? Looks to be a elite athlete with a huge upside and I'd rather have him than Brice.

Maybe the Monken hiring helps us land him but are we actually serious about him?

Hard to believe the timing of this is just a coincidence with Vandagriff on campus.

I'd be surprised if it happened this weekend, but the next time he's here with his family (they aren't coming this weekend from what I've read), I'd be expecting a commitment.
