I was optimistic too, but just haven't seen much improvement in play and the results obviously aren't there either.
I just don't know what the program is missing to get over the hump. Not even sure if it is something a coach can fix.

There’s no hope. It’s a stench we can’t shake for some reason. We’ve recently had good players (even this year) but can’t win shite. Our program has always been shite and there’s a reason we’re the worst basketball program in the SEC. IDK... Greg Marshall is available. Maybe someone like him who know how to do more with less. I’d say bulldoze that shite arena, hire a new coach, and attempt to become somewhat relevant.

In general, the fanbase is indifferent about the team. I'm sure it's hard as a player and coach when 90% of the fanbase forgets you're there. It could be deeper than that, but that's how I see it.

We are competitive in football because we recruit well in football.
We are not competitive in basketball because we don't recruit well in basketball.
We are currently ranked 101 with one 3 star recruit in our 2021 class.

Maybe one day we will be able to find a coach that is able to do both things well.

on 1/10/21 at 9:01 am to mikehoncho69I would have to look back say 10 years for an objective comparison but let's put this way: our basketball recruiting is far removed from our football recruiting which is where it needs to be to become competitive.
As I said, so far we have one 3 star recruit for 2021.
2020 - 33rd ranked class with one 4 star and four 3 stars
2019 - 11th ranked class - one 5 star, four 4 stars and two 3 stars (our best class ever?)
2018 - 37th ranked class - two 4 stars and two 3 stars
prior to Crean:
2017 - 41st ranked class - one 4 star and three 3 stars
2016 - 35th class - one 4 star and 2 three stars
So basically we've had 1 good year of recruiting (still not top 10 though) out of the last 5 years, 3 with Crean at the helm.
So yea, Crean probably isn't a very good coach but his recruiting isn't where it needs to be either though granted he did have one good recruiting class.
