After last year's NCG loss I remember so many of the talking heads in here stating that this season would be a rebuilding year, and in no way with the departures could we compete for the SECG and beyond.

Seemingly it appears they might have missed the mark in hindsight.

I for one do not miss boo boo, Grantham, and CMR or, the one a day practice sessions with ice cream machine in locker room Adams led product.

I think this team might possibly overachieved.

Tejas better watch out!

I don't recall overly many people pining for more Grantham, even when he was still here...

Richt is a nice guy but coaching has passsd him by. He needs to go be a player relations guy or something like that.

The biggest thing is the depth of talent. As good as Richt recruited, this team just has a lot more better players. Smart is not just recruiting high star kids, but he is recruiting players that he can develop. As many injuries we had on the line this year, yet still pushed our way through the SEC tells a big story. If he can continue at this pace, UGA won’t have rebuilding years... just different players. As much as the last two losses to Bama suck, we are in a good place.

This was a rebuilding season.
Even with that, I picked an 11-1 season with a SECCG win preseason. You don't look back. Only push forward.

With the East being down, it wasn't hard to see us back in Atlanta even despite the setbacks at ILB, RB, T, and WR. Smart is a great coach, and our Dawgs were going to get better each week to give us a chance in December and January. Much the same as last season (we were a much better team in the Rose Bowl than in South Bend).

Kirby was hired to take UGA from a 8-9 win team to a 10-11 win team (regular season wins). He has fulfilled that..to see what an enormous effort it took for those extra wins should not be overlooked and explains why there are only a handful of teams that achieve this on a year to year basis. championships may follow or they might not, but we are in a so much better place than we were.

Not only this, but we are finally beating opponents like we should - meaning proportionate to the talent levels on the field. One of the more frustrating things with CMR was we found ourself hanging on for dear life too many times vs teams that weren’t very good.

can you link who said that? Just about everyone to a man said that we would 1)take a step back from last year 2)easily win the east and make the SECCG

We've done both of those. I think just about everyone was pretty spot on with that prediction.

I agree with your sentiment....however we made the SECCG twice in the last TEN years under Richt and co. Hell...we damn near split with USCe and ..... you know the rest.

That shite left scars.

It's incredible. I swear some of these people will be lying on their deathbed and with their final breath will ask "why did richt run sanks with no timeouts left in the 01 auburn game?"

Something that bothers me is looking at every season we don't win the National Championship as a failure. Obviously that's the end goal, but finishing in the top 3 with a Sugar Bowl win is a very good College Football season.

Bingo.

The best thing is, they're making o-linemen a recruiting priority. That's why I would hate to see Pittman leave. I consider him to be the most important staffer that Kirby has...Because, as the o-line goes, so goes UGA.

Such an important point. Obviously 2013 was absolutely brutal from an injury perspective. We lost 3 of our top 4 receivers and our top 2 running backs.

But think of that happening this year. We’d still be loaded with 4&5 star players and not being forced to rely on guys like Brendan Douglas and Rhett McGowan

In 2010 we started Brandon Harton against Kentucky.

I just absolutely love what Kirby has done with this depth chart. Now it’s time to get over that final hump.

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, this team, imo, was not as good as last years team, and everybody was saying that we win the East but lose the SECCG, which is exactly what we did. granted, we did much better than i thought we would in the SECCG.

I think Richt recruited good lineman. He didn’t recruit enough of them. I think we are seeing that the depth there this year made for little drop off, whereas in other years, losing 3 starters would have been a deal breaker.
