Howdy Travel Board! I’ll be taking a trip to Seattle with a good buddy May 28-31. Looking for suggestions of things to do, sights, places to eat, etc. We will be catching a Mariners game or two while there but nothing else really planned yet. Any and all suggestions welcome, TIA!

Piggybacking on this thread, has anyone done a multi city trip by train in the PNW? Say Portland and Seattle both. Is it a hassle or a worthwhile experience with Amtrak?

Weather will be a crap shoot. Maybe beautiful or still in foggy mode. I did this last May. Mariners game. We took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island. Didnt have enough time for the outdoors type stuff tho.

We went way back in 2009.

We rented a car also. Not sure if you’re going to do that.

Mt Rainer, Downtown Fish Market, Olympia National Park, ride a ferry, that’s about all we got to do besides the game

My favorite day there last summer we did Wallace Falls and then ate at Vick's Burger Shack in Sultan. So good.

I'd stay in the city if you plan on going to a game every night. Plenty to do. Weather should be fine. Depending on where you stay you can walk, bike, or Uber anywhere. Go to breweries in Fremont and Ballard. Fremont Brewery is good for out of towners. Get fish and chips at the Pacific Inn next door. Space needle is pretty sweet now that they've completed renovation. You can chill and drink beers up top. I've never been to the glass museum but you can get a combo ticket to that and the needle. Rent Jump bikes and cruise the waterfront down through Myrtle Edwards Park. Could also rent kayaks on Lake Union for $20 an hour from a couple different places. Pike Place Market is cool. Old Stove Brewing in the Market is decent and has cool views. Go eat Dim Sum or Sushi in the International District. Maneki for sushi or Jade Garden for Dim Sum. Lots of homeless folk down that way but they're harmless. I can recommend some bars depending on how old you are.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are staying a couple blocks from Pike Place Market so we'll be spending a decent amount of time in that area I'd assume.

You drink good beer or prefer bars?

Would prefer good beer as we'll likely not be in this area again for quite some time.

Great Notion out of Portland might have their new spot in Seattle ready when you visit. If so, make that a priority.

Reubens will be across the street from Great Notion.

Holy Mountain
Urban Family
Dirty Couch

Chucks hop shop has over 40 taps and is the premier taproom/bottle shop in the area and not a far uber ride from where you're staying.

For food you can't go wrong with any Tom Douglas restaurant. Serious Pie is a place I like.

Be prepared for the weather. It could be great, just ok, or raining. It hasn't made up its mind yet then.

If downtown check out Radiator Whiskey in the Market at night... Nest on top of the Thompson Hotel for happy hour. It's expensive as shite but but has a cool view. Usually ladies up there as well. At 2nd Ave and Bell St there's a bunch of weird bars that are worth checking out. Shorty's, Rabbit Hole, Rob Roy, etc. Buckley's is a normal sports bar across the street from the others. Some Random Bar on 1st has a good whiskey selection. Bathtub Gin is a pretty cool speakeasy with a door in the alley at Blanchard between 1st and 2nd.

If in Ballard check out Percy & Co and King's Hardware for going out. Both are usually solid with plenty of normal people. Skal Beer Hall is new and pretty cool. Also couple of good breweries for day drinking over there. NW Peaks, Lauganitas, and Peddler all right next to each other. Also a bunch across 15th that are walkable. Reubens, Lucky Envelope, Obec, Stoup, Trailbend, Popluxe, Hales Ales, and a couple more.

Fremont is next to Ballard and has a some good bars. Brouwers, Triangle, Outlander. Ballroom is ok..might be younger crowd.

I don't go over to Cap Hill often but it's always packed on the weekends. Captain Black's and La Cocina Oaxaquena both have cool outdoor seating for day drinking. Rhein House is usually pretty packed at night. Unicorn if you want to take acid and go to the bar. Also lots of gay bars over there if you're into that.

Go to Quality Athletics, Elysian Fields, or Pyramid Brewing before games. All are down by the T-Mobile Park.

If eating downtown check out Local 360, Serious Pie, Shiro's Sushi, and Chan for cheaper meals. Go to Metropolitan, Sushi Kashiba, or Matt's in the Market if y'all are ballers.

if you're looking for more than nightlife, there's some great outdoors worth exploring not far from seattle. Olympic National Park is awesome. if you head the other direction, the Cascades are gorgeous with glacier lakes, hiking, whitewater rafting(not sure how May is for rafting).

The pop museum and the glass exhibit are worth a stop and it's all right there close to the Pike market.

Fremont Brewing.
Chuck’s Hop Shop for to go beers.
Rock Creek Seafood.
Central Smoke Bar and Smokery.
Ivar’s Salmon House.
Portage Bay for breakfast/brunch.
Food tour of Pike Place Market.

Went in September for the Saints game. These are a few of the places we went that I would recommend.

Yes, Cascades train is consistently rated as one of the best short train rides in the country. Portland to Seattle and Seattle to Vancouver are both about 4 hour trips on the train, and sometimes faster than driving depending on the time of day. Both are very scenic, weather permitting. Portland and Seattle have downtown stations, Vancouver station isn't exactly downtown, but connects to their translink which has probably the best rail/subway system in North America. Would highly recommend.

Surprised no one suggested The Museum of Flight. If you like airplanes in a Smithsonian type setting, maybe even better, then this is your place.

If near Portland then go to Multnomah Falls.
