Honeymoon Recommendations- Mid to Late October
Posted by Detective Gamble on 8/14/20 at 7:50 pm00
Our original honeymoon in Europe is being postponed. Looking for places within the US to go for a week.
Looking for something relaxing yet still enough things to go do if we want.
Not looking to break the bank but if we need to spend, we can
Flying out of Nola. Interested in going somewhere North but we’re open to anything really.
Some initial thoughts we had were somewhere in Colorado, Jackson Hole, somewhere on the Great Lakes, or maybe somewhere in the northeast, maybe a coastal town.
Obviously we’re pretty open minded
Where are some good places that we can go?

Carmel by the sea - easy living, go to Big Sur, go to pebble, etc.
Not a great place if you’re looking for laying at the beach though.

Upstate NY; Lake Placid, Hudson River Valley and Vermont & New Hampshire if you have time.

I was supposed to go and play Pebble in October but they weren't taking advanced tee times, and you had to be a CA resident.

We kinda like the Portland, ME idea. Kinda out of our comfort zone.
What’s there to do in that area?

Inn by the Sea
Abitafan08 posted this link recently.
Looks like a good place just south of Portland.

If y’all enjoy breweries, there are few places in the country better than Portland. The restaurant scene is incredible. The Inn By The Sea (posted above) is beautiful. Highly recommend.

I'm here now. Drinking Bissel Bros all night.

Another vote for Portland and up the coast.
IMO, decent substitutions for a blown international trip (under normal circumstances) -
Maine (or other New England)
NYC
Napa/Sonoma
Santa Fe
UP Michigan is another on my list that seems like it could be sufficiently unique to scratch that itch - but I've never been.

Anyone been to Lake Tahoe in October?

Friend,
The Great Smoky Mountains are perfect at that time of year and should be near peak foliage season. Portland, ME is chilly at that time with averages colder than the average coldest week of the year for New Orleans.
Lake Tahoe is probably the most overrated resort area in America. It also is quite chilly by mid October. The UP of Michigan is lovely, but again, chilly by then. Perhaps a little south to Traverse City with the Sleeping Bear dunes would be a better option, but still, it also can be cold by mid October.
Yours,

Unico 20.87 in Mexico. Adult only all inclusive about an hour south of Cancun. Look it up that place is amazing.

You can ferry to Nova Scotia from Portland. IIRC they cut off sometime in October.
