New Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko arrived in College Station this afternoon via a A&M jet to begin his duties in Aggieland. Elko is expected to hit the ground running as the AFCA coaching convention begins today in Charlotte and the rest of the Aggies' staff is expected to be filled out in short order.

quote:

It has been discussed that Notre Dame linebackers' coach Clark Lea and special teams' coordinator Brian Polian would be joining Elko at A&M and Polian was the Aggies' special teams/tight ends' coach in 2012 under Kevin Sumlin. Neither of their names in the Notre Dame coaching directory were linked to their individual pages as of this afternoon.

His brother, Dennis, was the Director of Player Personnel under Sumlin. One of the few expanded staff positions Coach Sumlin put in place. I wonder if the idea is to keep him in that capacity as a sort of scouting director/psuedo-GM role and bring in his brother as well.

It would certainly take the sting out of losing Coach Banks. However, if he goes to Bama thats going to suck because ST is about the only thing they don't do at an elite level.

Will see if it’s true. Would be a step down for Polian in terms of responsibility

Chin pubes is saying he hasn’t heard or seen anything on it. Also Polian’s recent tweets wouldn’t make you think he’s leaving

I haven't seen where ND coach Brian Kelly has named a new DC. I'm assuming he hasn't yet. That probably accounts for the uncertainty about Lea.

Anyone know if Fisher had a coach only responsible for special teams at FSU? Or did Brewster or some other assistant run ST, too, in addition to their other duties?

Brian Polian coached @ A&M in ‘12 before taking the Nevada HC gig.

Did any of you see the video of Elko arriving in CS? Sure did look like Lea getting off the plane behind him.

Packers DL coach Jerry Montgomery is coming and will split DL duties with Price

He was at OU in 13 and 14 and Michigan in 11-12. Looks like a good recruiter

I believe there are 2 spots left, one for LB and one for DB (or Special Teams, if Elko coaches DBs along with being DC)

The Green Bay Packers are really cleaning house. Haven't they let go the GM, OC and DC (as well as some other assistants)?
