Vandy has been to 8 bowl games in their history. Franklin took them all 3 years.

That was a one time occurrence with some questionable decision making but franklin was hardly harboring a den of criminals. It wasn't Baylor or penn state.

And that's the exact bullshite that gets you in trouble. If we are going to talk about chips bagage, we should do the same about Franklin

Franklin completely fricked over Vanderbilt on the way out, taking their entire recruiting class with him to Penn State.

My top choice is still Greg Schiano.

In my lifetime (1978-present), Rutgers has had 14 winning seasons, 8 as a member of the Big East and 1 as a member of the Big Ten.

In their history, they have been to 10 bowl games and finished the season ranked 4 times.

Greg Schiano was responsible for 6 of their winning seasons, the greatest finish in school history (12th in 2006), and 5 of their 6 bowl wins, and 6 of their bowl appearances.

My top choice is Aranda at LSU. However, supposedly some really big money is going to be thrown around so it looks like they will chase some established coaches first

They are going to chase Fisher, Peterson, and the like. I don't think they get them, but it never hurts to try

What an interesting name to throw out. I think we could do a lot worse. I'll let it marinate, but I think you made a nice choice.

Schiano has been the defensive coordinator of Ohio State since last season. When he was fired from Tampa Bay, they fired their GM as well.

You're absolutely right. Big money is going to be thrown around - on Rumlin's guaranteed buyout.

After that is all said and done, we are going to be tapped and end up going the Morris/Aranda type route.

They may not be the worst thing in the world. Coaching hires is such a crap shoot at times.

I still don't see why we wouldn't go at Schiano.

I mean, I think he's a good coach but he's from NJ.

Like 50th/50 best states New Jersey. Like least likeable people and accent New Jersey.

I don't think cultural fit is close to the top of factors, but at a certain point you have to call a spade a spade right?

I'd prefer it as well. Cheaper. Huge upside and really nothing to lose.

We will be better off in the long term finding the next big name rather than taking a risk on the "hot" name or trying to win a bidding war for an experienced coach willing to make a move.

And I hate to say it but no one has more upside than Chad Morris. Texas HS coaches think he's the second coming of Art Briles, but with actual integrity. That goes a long way in recruiting as well.

And Mike Sherman struggled to recruit. Like I said, it's not a huge factor but NJ?
