same info I posted on MSB but dropped here since that'll get lost in the shuffle

Texas A&M will host ULM at Kyle Field in College Station on Nov. 15, 2014. The Aggies will pay the Warhawks a $1.1 million guarantee for the game.

2015-16 Texas A&M-USC Series Never Finalized

Back in 2009, then Texas A&M Director of Athletics Bill Byrne announced that the Aggies were “finalizing a series with USC for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.” To date, a contract has not been completed for that series.

A spokesman for the USC athletic department told us last night that “there were very preliminary discussions between the schools, but nothing ever came of it.” Officials at Texas A&M have not yet returned a request for comment.

The same 2009 release also stated that Texas A&M would travel to Oregon in 2018 and host the Ducks in 2019. An Oregon official confirmed there is a signed contract and that the games are currently scheduled for Sept. 15, 2018 in Eugene and Sept. 14, 2019 in College Station.

The Aggies will host Louisiana Tech on Sept. 10, 2016 and New Mexico on Nov. 11, 2017. Tech will receive $200,000 for their contest, while New Mexico will get a cool $1 million.

its pretty annoying that $Bill announced a series that hadn't been finalized.

Also, our OOC schedule for '14 right now looks like this

Lamar
@SMU
ULM

I really, really hope we dump Lamar for something, anything better.

I don't mind keeping the SMU game but I wouldn't be shocked if it gets dumped or moved since we will be back in Jerry World that year.

I was looking forward to the SC series. Too bad. I hope the Oregon one actually does end up happening

I do miss having name-brand programs on the non-con schedule

Miami, Notre Dame, Pitt, Clemson, Va Tech, etc

How is this $Bill's fault?

I'm sure it can still be finalized but a current person on one side or both is blocking it.

All Bill did was tease you with the possibility.

he shouldn't have announced it before everything was signed.

$Bill - "Hey! I'm getting married!"

Unwashed Rabble - "She said yes! Huzzah!"

$Bill - "That's right! Save the date!"

months later

Unwashed Rabble - "Hey where's the invite? We want to go to that wedding!

$Bill - "Oh well she never actually said yes. I just wanted you to know I was discussing the possibility of marrying her. Also, I'm keeping any presents you bought in anticipation of the event. My bad! "

I wasn't too enthralled about playing a home-and-away with USC. I'd much rather play a team from Texas or Louisiana, for recruiting purposes.

We'll eventually play the nutless bovines, so that will handle strength of schedule concerns.

I have no problem playing La Tech. I certainly have no problem erasing the stain Arkansas left on our conference last year by destroying

Louisiana Monroe at home. But...

Lamar
No, just no. Sam Houston would be a tougher opponent.

After the game they gave us last year, LA Tech certainly deserves a rematch. They always seem to put up a good fight even though we have never lost to them.

I'm not 100% on this, but think 2013 will be the first year Lamar plays only teams that have full-time football programs. They were scheduling part-time football programs (Langston, Webber International, Texas College) that would only play 5-6 games a year. Mostly NAIA squads...

well, they were total counts about that game. We were in a scheduling nightmare and we conceded a home/home to them provided they played in Shreveport. Then they wanted money on top and we acquiesced. For that we gave them the home game first and the return date is 3 years later. Total joke and it only happened because we had no real options. And to top it off they moved it screwing us with the bye.

I'm a businessman first and if they came to me with a proposal I'd listen, but I wouldn't actively seek them out as an opponent in the near future. If they had played nice, I might have suggested a long-term deal with them - something along the lines of 3 for 2 as part of this. But given how this went down, I'd play the agreed game and move on. There are far too many other midmajors within earshot that will actually work with us.

I'd like to see us settle into a base formula for our OOC. Assuming it stays at 4...

- BCS level home/home
- midmajor 2 for 1
- 2 FBS home game (no FCS)

That would give us only 6 home games once every 3 years and 7 the others, plus the neutral site Jerryworld game.

I'd schedule the midmajor around the BCS opponent. If you play ASU, maybe add in UNLV. Then offset the home games so you play in that part of the country a couple of years in a row and have their local media also following our home games vs them. Coordinated brand enhancement. You could do something like that in the Carolinas too wrapped around the USCe game. You could pick up Clemson/NCSU/UNC type of opponent as the BCS offset with USCe home/home and then grab a 2 for 1 with someone like ECU or even Wake or Duke.

Basically I think we need to give more thought to our scheduling and what we're after. Everything has always seemed rather haphazard. I like what a school like UCLA has been doing. They play in Texas 4 of 5 years (at tu, at UH, at Rice, skip, vs tu at Jerryworld). Upcoming they play UNLV/Nevada coordinated. They just seem to have a more thoughtful approach than most other schools.

I want to get back to playing interesting non con opponents. It doesn't have to be a marquee matchup either. Give me a Northwestern, UVA or Maryland and thats fine. BCS conference teams that generate a little interest and have some impact recruiting wise. Just something outside of boring directional schools

@JFowlerCBS: Texas A&M-South Carolina and Missouri-Arkansas to start permanent rivalries in 2014. Aggies to play in Columbia.

Interesting. So our 7 fixed games would be

Home '14: LSU, Ole Miss
Road '14: Bama, Auburn, USCe, MSU
Neutral: Arky

Can almost we're going to play someone 2 years in a row at home. My guess is Auburn as would split the two AL schools

oops, nevermind. I just figured out what they are doing.

All the East will host the cross-division opponents in 2014. All the west will host the rotating game. This should keep them from back-to-back home games once set. However, Mizzou will host Arkansas next year (Mizzou is hosting this year vs us) and Ole Miss will travel to Vanderbilt again. That should set the conference schedule long term.

Our last opponent next year will be at home and will be one of: UGA, UT, or UK

Apparently, Hyman told people Oregon will not be on the schedule either according to SAE-N's Brent Zwenerman on Twitter.

"To clear up any rumors about future A&M nonconference foes, AD Eric Hyman said here at SEC spring meetings USC and Oregon are not on list" — Brent Zwerneman (@BrentZwerneman)

"Hyman said essentially shift from Big 12 to SEC meant A&M had to nearly 'scrub our whole schedule' regarding OOC games." — Brent Zwerneman (@BrentZwerneman)

Gotta love Bill Byrne's scheduling prowess.

Make a big splash in the news with a press release announcing a deal to schedule a potential marquee OOC opponent, then do nothing to actually see that said deal actually goes through.

Personally, I'm glad that we didn't finalize any agreements with USC or Oregon. We have no history with either of those schools, and our schedule is hard enough being in the SEC as it is. By the time these games were to actually occur, we already could be playing t.u. again. It is also likely that the SEC will move to a 9 game schedule in the years to come, making an already tough conference schedule even tougher.

At any rate, I'd much rather beat up on our old SWC/Big 12 conference mates.

I know everyone loves to bash Byrne but basically every school has this issue. They try to schedule way out and then as it gets closer the schools mutually decide they don't want the game.

Oregon and K-State were supposed to play last season in the regular season. They scrubbed it by mutual consent and both added an FCS school to replace it. They should have been hammered mercilessly in the press over it as they sat 1/2. But instead they were both on track to play for the title until they lost a conference game. There is simply no incentive to anyone to play big OOC games right now and unfortunately, a 9-game SEC schedule would increase that. We'd never play anyone worth a shite (not that we are now).

Truthfully, one of our biggest problems is we've been selling out the stadium on season tickets. That means that we make about the same money whether we play SHSU or Notre Dame. The stadium expansion hopefully will have two-fold of an effect - make more money while also encouraging better games since the crap games won't sell out.
