Separate. When one craps out, you just replace that unit.

I can understand the point of having them separate. However, I’ve been running a Motorola and now Arris combo for over the past 5 years and have never had a problem. The only reason I upgraded was because the Motorola was really old and I wasn’t getting the most out of my ISP speed offering.

Of course now that I’ve said this I’m sure the router will crap out.
