I saw the reviews of the TCL on Amazon, not good, not good at all, over 40% less than 4 stars, Customer Service a nightmare

Yeah I understand, and pretty much would expect that, but you never know what you don't know so I would be willing to listen up to 2K.

My experience with technology is it usually pays to go top of the line, being frugal with your purchase at the same time. There is a lot out there I do not know about, bought my last TV 10 yrs ago. Dynex 50"plasma still running strong.

Running Hulu and Prime now

I bit the bullet and purchased the TCL 55R617, next model after P and picked up a 4 year warranty for another $122.

I did a lot of Cnet and youtube reviews.

Thanks for the help

I bought a 55” TCL series 6 for a bedroom tv. The picture is fantastic but the speakers leave a little something to be desired. I’ll just add a small soundbar and it will be good to go. It is so much better than the Panasonic plasma I have in my living room that it looks like I’ll now be replacing that one as well.

Check out the LG 2017 OLED models. The 55" is ~$1600 new when I posted the link. There are some refurbished models on Amazon running around $1200.

Don't worry that the 2018 model is out. It is significantly higher priced and only marginally better (at least relative to the price hike).

I think the picture is just phenomenal. People warn of using it in bright rooms, but my wife and I were blown away by Planet Earth II episodes today in our living room where we have large bay windows. I think the "brightness" concern that critics have is overhyped. Don't take my word for it though. Head to Best Buy, Target, or Costco and see one. It's usually not carried at Wal Marts that I've been to. I just bought the 65" myself.

Aside from picture, it has some neat features. The remote is similar to that of a Nintendo Wii - you can point at the screen and perform actions without using directional arrows.

The WebOS is interesting. I still think "the big three" streaming boxes (Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV) all have better interfaces and more apps. This tv Netflix app has native 4k support though. Having literally upgraded accounts today to take advantage of it, the available features are very limited, so don't let that be a selling point.

Short of it:
Best picture
One of the better/best smart TV interfaces (which I still think all lag behind discreet set top boxes)
Super light and low profile.

Yeah, if $2k is your budget and you don't want to go above 57 inches then an OLED like Hopeful Doc posted is what you want if you're looking for the best TV your money can buy rather than the best bang for your buck. Like he said, head to somewhere that you can see the TV and you'll see how much the OLEDs stand out.

Agree on the OLED. However, if the room is brightly lit an LED could be a better choice. In a brightly lit room I'd try to up the budget to get the Samsung QLED.

That said, I'm getting an LG 65" OLED in the next couple of weeks.

Who makes a 57” TV ? Most likely a brand you don’t want.

I prefer a good LED over an OLED

There are some pretty good LEDs out there, and they certainly give a better bang for the buck. Heck, I still love my 8 year old Sony HX series LED.

It's all preference and none is wrong. But check them out at the store up close and far away. The wife and I were actually big fans of a 75" Vizio when it was next to the OLED pumping similar content (PS- make sure you compare demo vs demo and broadcast or movie vs broadcast or movie...ESPN on the best TV is going to almost definitely look worse than a UHD demo on a more moderate television). We looked at the two from a bit further away (about the distance we would be glancing from the kitchen) and the difference was night and day- the OLED contrast stood out from 20ft away very similar to up close. That specific LED looked much more washed out/dull.

Fortunately we live in a day where you're just about splitting hairs no matter what way you go about it. There isn't a whole lot of truly bad product out there.

It's tough to judge TVs side by side in a store. Generally, they're setup completely wrong because for most people the brightest set wins. Vivid is not a setting that should ever be used on a TV but it's what the big box stores usually show you.

Can you share your thoughts on this? I'm going to be getting a second set and I'm leaning heavily towards the LG C8P 65". The room will have good control of ambient light. I'm also an LG dealer so obviously the price is good.

Would you lean towards the Samsung QLED instead? That would be distributor pricing for me so still good pricing but not as good as my LG pricing. The Samsung would be the QF9N.

Thanks.
