but at the same time, there's the understanding that he wouldn't be recruiting (the life blood of a program) for us during that time. It's not as easy of a decision folks think.
Him having success in the playoffs would also be like a recruiting pitch for LSU too. That's all that'll be talked about during the games, all the credit for his coaching job on your team and season is now credit to LSU. It's just not a good look.
I think it's also an opportunity for OM to give the reins to Golding and Weis Jr. to see if they have something there worth sticking with, over pursuing a whole new coach and system and losing every bit of momentum you have.

Would you honestly do that at the expense of sinking your own program and helping out a rival? That's the big question.
I mean, I suppose that depends on if you think you have a better shot to win one in the future or if this as good as it gets for a while.
I’m biased, myself. I won’t hide that I think Lane elevated y’all and while y’all are still going to be a better program than when you hired him you won’t get to this point with a Sumrall or whoever. So I would gamble on now. But that’s a you decision.

This.
You never know the outcome unless it’s played with the coach in charge and with the demand your administration made on him, you will never know.
….with that said. I think Lane and we all know that Ole Miss is not at the elite level yet. You don’t match up with any of the top four teams for sure.
You can’t ever win it all only through the portal. That you have no starters on your offense from the state of Mississippi is telling and as he said in the presser “another story.”
So why not let him coach while he builds for next year with his new team?

He would 100% coach this team through the season if y’all let him. We would let him, too.
You’re not letting him do anything!

Wrong

I would rather shut down the football program than allow him to coach in the post season.
Then you go and say this, which proves my point. Like a jilted lover, you would rather burn the house down if it meant robbing your ex of some happiness. Lane would love to stay with his team through the playoffs, but Ole Miss won’t allow it.

He says that every year talking about the Egg Bowl. It’s largely done to say that these kids from out of state rise to the occasion while not necessarily being “steeped” in egg bowl lore.
