re: Mac Jones is better than Tua
Tua 2018 SEC champ stats
10-25
164 yard
1 td-2 INT

Mac Jones 2020 vs UGA

24-32
417 yards
4 td-1 int

Do the stats tell a different story that I am not seeing? Maybe I am too dumb?

re: Mac Jones is better than Tua
The most important part about Mac that's being ignored is that he sat on the bench for a few years waiting his turn. He's making the best of his opportunity this year, and doing a good job as the leader of a good offense.

Old school.

The announcers were talking about the UGA QB, but they made the comment:
The players like him, and want to play for him.

That seems to be the case with Jones. He's just out there slinging it, there's no drama about his family, his draft status, etc. If he needs to take a hit, he gets hit, wipes the snot off his nose, gets up and returns to the huddle for the next play.
I think the other guys like that.

Looking back at Burrow, for all the great touch throws he made, it was him taking a big shot and coming right back afterwards that seemed to endear him to the team.

Mac, like Burrow, doesn't have the bestest arm talent, but he's good enough, and he's tough too. Football's a tough game, I don't think the rest of the team likes a guy who gets the spotlight but can't take the hits.

Great post Scoob, agree 100%

The most important thing about Mac is he can take hits and not get broken in half. Period.

Alabama won’t lose a game until they play Clemson.

Depends on how you measure "arm talent".

Some people measure it by how hard a QB throws the ball. Some don't.

Mac leads the Power-5 in Completion percentage AND in yards per attempt - IMO, that is a good measure of arm talent.

re: Mac Jones is better than Tua
Just a different style of QB. Tua’s strength is his quick release and accuracy. That’s why Alabama was so effective with RPO slants. Tua could make that throw on the money all day. Mac isn’t as good there and they don’t run those plays as much with him. He’s a better deep ball thrower than Tua though. Throwing the deep ball off play action might be Mac’s strongest point. Tua is more like a short stop in baseball. It’s like chocolate and vanilla. Which one do you like better?
